Re: Strike arc...sticks EVERY time

Get yourself some thicker plate to practice with, minimum 3mm , clean to bare metal and play around with that. Much less frustrating and you will actually run some good looking beads. Try some different electrodes, 6013, 7018 in 3.2 mm, once you dial the welder and yourself in a bit and you are happ...

Dont be part of the problem. If sick stay home. Practice a good level of hygiene, wash hands often, clean down with sanitiser shared areas, ie lunch tables, work desks, phones etc. And above all PANIC, it will let the media think they are useful, maybe not. Less than 200,000 cases out of 7.4 billion...

Google is your friend. Lincoln, Miller etc will have various options. Depending on your power supply available, Gas or flux core, spray or short circuit, ability or need to do aluminium alloy, degree of portability, which type of mig gun, ability to do scratch tig on steel etc, warrenty and parts/re...

Re: What is a safe rust inhibitor?

Lanoline.
Used for seveal thousand years on iron and steel.
Cheap, non toxic, effective.
I use it on my welding table and firearms in a sub tropical climate,
Works well.
Also works as an anti spatter coating.

Re: Indoor TIG?

I agree with Tweake, keep it in the shed.
Do you have 240v in the garage?
I'm constantly dipping the tungsten so being near the electrode grinder is a huge benefit.
Acetone fumes dont go well with living rooms, along with mill scale and other assorted dusts and fumes welding produces.

Get her to follow cj737 advice. Today's CI processors are small, no bigger than a hearing aid fitted behind the ear. If it was the Processor causing this behind the ear is where she would feel it, along with a fair bit of interference. I assume you and your friend are in the northern hemisphere wher...

Re: Want opinions, thinking of buying this welder..

I have been looking at upgrading my old wia 150s mig to either a 200 or 250 amp machine. I have several dedicated 15 amp single phase circuits in my shed. The issue is I would like a 250 amp unit, however the small print recommendation seems to be a requirement for a 25 to 30 amp circuit for the uni...

Re: Gearing up - Way too many questions

Datto 1600, I ended up buying my bottles. But we seem to have a different system here in oz. I have 2 D sized bottles, when empty I call the supplier I bought them from and they deliver a serviceable full one. You just pay for the gas, a price that in the usa would make your eyes bleed. Bottles here...

My experience is my radio reception drops out when I hit the pedal when welding aluminium.
This is with a 200 amp inverter machine.
Smart phone is usually within 10 feet, no issues, yet.

So the measure twice weld once part of the build went a bit wrong eh. Dont just suck it and see, I have shared a hospital room with a young bl...

The 2 types of radiation are ultra violet and heat. The majority of the things you listed will stop both. Welding in tropical areas is hot and sweaty and just damn uncomfortable, you can to a point get away with the shorts and tee shirt occasionally usually just tacking etc, I dont recommend it. You ...

Chris, I would assume that an engineer of some sort was involved in the design of this system? It might pay to see the plan and what the designer has laid out as the preferred method of welding. Failing that contact him or his office and get something in writing. You as the assembler shouldnt be in ...

Since you already have a Milwaukee battery go with the Milwaukee grinder.
Theres not a lot of difference between the top 3 or 4 battery tool producers in terms of performance and quality, so go with what youve got.

Re: Motorcycle subframe crack repair

This is interesting. To me that joint suffers a compression type stress. Yet the crack exhibutes as a tension, flex crack. As to welding the sides only on manufacture, 2 things, 1 is cost, 2 is not putting a heat effected zone in the V of the joint. Obviously that didnt work. There is a few photos o...

Paint the legs in a rustproof paint, if your earh point is on the legs leave that bit unpainted and coat with lanolin. Regarding the top, get some lanolin, rub into both sides. Have a local canvas place make up a canvas or herculite cover, canvas breaths better, herculite is more waterproof and uv r...
