Re: Ranger 9

Thank you for the reply Lance!! I have not tested the battery but the guy I got it from said it is fairly new. I ended up cleaning the contact area for the selector switch with a wire brush in a dermal and it welds great now. I just need to get the voltage regulator replaced and the welder will be i...

Ranger 9

Good evening everyone. I am having some issues with a ranger 9 I resently purchased and was hoping I could get some suggestions. I have done all the testing in the sevice manual. The issue I have is the weld current is very low when the range selector switch is set to 160 max. Can't even get a 3/32 ...

Re: Razor Blades

This is the best one I have. I have been through a lot of blades practicing. I used 3/32 2% lanth at 20 amps with 3/32 filler. Clamped blades down to a copper bar. Lit up on the copper and then moved to the blades after the arc stabilized. Also had to keep the filler rod in the arc when arc got clos...

Re: Plasma options

Most of what I will be cutting is 1/2 and below. All hand cutting. I don't weld for a living just like to do it in my super time. It would be nice to have ability to cut thicker materials just in case. I am leaning toward the hypertherm. From my understanding they produce the best quality cuts. It l...

Plasma options

Looking for advise. I am looking to buy a plasma cutter and have narrowed it down to 3 options. Option 1 is a hypertherm powermax 600. This is a used machine but looks to be in great shape. Option 2 is a thermal dynamics 100xl. It's a 2003 model. More than I need but nice to have spare capacity. Opt...

Re: 6011 vertical up

Sounds like you are pulling the rod out of the puddle. For vertical and overhead you want to keep a tight arc. Also don't need as many amp for vertical. Try using the lower range of the rod. I usually use a small circles for vertical up the 6010 and 6011. Maybe some of the more experienced guys have...

3/32 tungsten

Hey guys. I am fairly new to tig welding and teach myself through the Youtube videos. I have attached a picture from practice tonight. Getting close to the end of the weld the tungsten popped and the tip turned blue. I am not sure what caused this. My settings are below. If anyone has any ideas plea...

Stainless filler rod

Hi all. I am new to the forum and tig welding. I have been learning mostly from watching YouTube. I bought a used tig welder that came with various filler wire. Some of the wire is for stainless but has no markings. How do I tell what type of stainless wire it is? Thanks for your help.
