Re: What TIG welding stuff to buy?

Re: Garage Welding

This seems to be what the underwriter is leery of, that I'm running a business. I've explained that the cylinders contain inert gas and are smaller than a scuba tank or fire extinguisher. The only exception in the policy that they can cling onto is "Farm or Business". If they accept that I...

Re: Garage Welding

Thanks for the replies guys. I was originally concerned with oxy/acet and figured I would have to move them out which isn't a problem. Just don't want to find myself without insurance when its too late to ask the proper questions. Currently working with insurance broker to see what can be done. Hope...

Garage Welding

Hey Guys Posted this at Garage Journal too... Looking for input on what you guys are doing about welding rigs in the garage? We are in BC Canada and have an attached garage. I have TIG, MIG and oxy-acetylene rigs as well as a couple of nitrogen bottles. When I asked our broker about potential insura...

Re: . . . .like a Flashbulb going off while welding.

I have LED lamps that give a problem with glare and have used a leather bib clipped to the back of the helmet with good results.

Re: Help me learn to see the joint

The light placement near my table was causing glare on the inside of the lens I covered up the back of my helmet by clipping in a leather bib which helps a lot.

Re: Help with Scale/Porosity problem

I just did 8 tacks on freshly ground new steel. All mill scale and finish removed. One of the tacks spattered and did exactly what you are describing. I ground that area again and it work perfect. I will clean this piece with acetone or alcohol and TIG the joints and see if there are problems. Postf...

Re: Help with Scale/Porosity problem

As a beginner I am having similar issues TIGing mild steel. I grind but do not acetone/clean. Sometimes at the end of my weld during postflow you can see the contaminants bubble up out of the weld pool, like a volcano. Is it possible or likely that my slow rate of travel causes contaminants to be pu...
