Re: how to approach suppliers regarding work quality

This issue would drive me crazy - so I've never ordered anything pre-cut to a specific size. My tolerances are very close when I build and I would not expect a random, low dollar cutting employee to hit my specs. If I had to get stuff pre-cut, I would ask for a written agreement to be signed specif...

Re: how to approach suppliers regarding work quality

I just figure if it needs to be exact I better cut it myself. Then when it's wrong I don't have to yell at anyone. :) That is spot on. I just do it to save time at the moment, as it is just a back yard business. I have never looked into what they offer tolerance wise, and what is considered within ...

how to approach suppliers regarding work quality

Basically i'd like peoples opinion on how to communicate with steel suppliers when their quality comes up short. I have a few local suppliers in my area, and i have been having problems with theit processing quality in the last few months. Im not going to mention names for now, but my last supplier ...

Re: help figuring out voltge for fcaw

Yes, the polarity is set up for gasless welding at home (DCEN), normally i juts turn the voltage to max and fiddle with the wire speed until it sizzles, and doesn't spatter. Depending on travel speed and technique it works well for 2.5-4mm steel, nice smooth bead and good penetration. I was just puz...

help figuring out voltge for fcaw

Sounds like a stupid question as I am obviously missing some info on how fcaw works. As you might be able to tell by some of my posts, I am not a seasoned welder. One thing I can't, for the life of me, figure out the relationship between volts and amps while running FCAW. What I am struggling with i...

when i was at bunnings once, i noticed there were heaps of those blue plastic cases that cigweld use for their 1kg packs satincraft.png Laying everywhere as they hang them on a hanger and the tape fails, sending electrodes all over the floor......There was like 8 or 10 empty packets sitting there. Re: 7018 3/16" - first time....

Looks a tiny cold as above stated, and what is your rod angle? Running a steeper drag angle can produce a flatter, more uniform bead. I tend to get the same bead profile and stretched ripples running stringers on flat plate if my drag angle is off a tad (on the slack side). The 7018 slag covering is...

Re: Not a welding question... But any Mountain Bikers out th

There is a level where quality and performance tapers off, and turns more to aesthetics and weight. Most of the time a bike will only be specced with different drivetrain, braking and wheels, and they will keep the same frame through a range of models. Anything from Shimano Deore and Sram X.5 is qua...

as most of the tubing is thin, im not too worried about penetration (If i set the beast up well, it will penetrate well even with a spot technique. mig welding stainless furniture

Just wondering why stainless is pretty much only welded with TIG? I make some stainless furniture when im bored, and haven't really tigged much (in other words i suck), and use the mig for the 1.2mm stainless tubing i weld. I find it pretty much hassle free, I use the spot technique and most welds c...

Re: Need tips on pipe on a handrail!

think about inserting an tube inside the splice. Like is done in aircraft fuselage work. From your picture, the tube doesn't look that thick. Since you're grinding to flush, you might take that a step further and drill some holes in the outer tube, then socket weld the outer to the inner for additi...

Re: 6010 vs 6011

Im not sure what it is, but i know 6010 rods need a lot more OCV to arc, and as far as I have been told at most welding suppliers, it is the arc stabilizers (potassium) that help the 6011 light so much easier. 6011 Rods are supposed to be able to arc with 50V machines, where as most 6010 rods specif...

Not intending to hijack the thread...it's still about 6010s. What is the characteristic of 6010 rods that cause some inverter machines to not like to run them? I'd like to know as well......i have a lot of trouble starting/re-starting with 6010 over 6011....I find 6011 runs a lot easier on my magma...

Re: MIG tacks beading (newbie)

My wife bought me a welder for my birthday, it's a 120 Volt, 70 Amp, MIG welder that came with a regulator that does not have a flow gauge. My plan is to weld thin steel sheet metal for car body work. I got a gas bottle and I am using 0.024" wire. The problem that I have is that I cannot even ...

Concave? I don't see it. Two pictures are clearly convex, and the third is flat to "just" convex. I don't see what you're so concerned about. All look to be in "acceptable" range. Steve S Cheers, i know not much of the stick welding, a couple of people at work have been calling ...

I depends on if your talking watts of the heating elements or watt usage. There 2 different things. Toaster as an example probably has an adjustable lever, you know the one push it one way you get warm bread push it the other you get a hockey puck. Same wattage of the element but different wattage ...

Re: Feedback on travel speed/concave welds

I found out the hard way the other day, why running a rod too hot can be more negative than positive.
