To bevel or not bevel

When welding a T joint should I bevel the edge of the intersecting piece to get the strongest weld strength? I am using 3/4 inch thick and sometimes 1 inch bracing mild steel to thick wall square tube. I would think root pass in a pocket created by beveling edge of the one piece would lend itself to...

Twist style stinger rod holder question

I just bought an arc welder rod holder that is the one that you put the rod into then twist to grip the rod. It came with a small piece of very thin copper about 1/2 in square. No instructions came with it so have no idea its purpose. Maybe to wrap around the copper cable strands that slide into the...

Thanks guys. I found the exact Lincoln torch switch on EBAY new for under $140 so will see how that will work out. I assume is momentary switch I must hold down.

Need advice on a longer amp control for my TIG

So I had to replace my TIG torch cable and all I could get was a 25 ft cable. Then I decided why not make myself a 25 ft ground makes sense right? Now I am still limited to 12 ft by my amp control pedal. I know there are torch end amp controls out there. Can they be attached to the #17 torch and run...

Re: Evolution Warranty.

My first four or five cuts with my Evolution chop saw went very smooth then I couldn't cut tissue paper. I think I may have hurt the blade somehow. I called the company and they sent me a new blade free of charge, very good customer service.

Re: Finishing stainless steel

I built my own dining table with square steel tubing (cheap) and a hardwood oak top purchased custom online then once frame made neighbor does powder coating for that. Then I bought self leveling epoxy for the top of the table. You may want to consider that option.

Re: Help debug first TIG attempt

Having welded a lot of aluminum a lot of the skill comes from watching the puddle grow with the introduction of filler once to size of previous bead shape I back up my cup lift slightly and move ahead dab and push until I again see same bead size lift a bit off and back with cup and repeat. Look mor...

Re: Finishing stainless steel

All good advice. I worked in food industry and exclusively SS. In addition to advice given your material if sheet will have a cover adhered to the polished or finished side. Resist removing it until all done or you easily scratch it. As stated a 2 by 2 piece of square tube with a piece welded perpen...

No drain holes but I did add four 1 3/4 holes on each of the sides for air flow. It has easy to remove countersunk fasteners for getting off for oil changes.

I made this a few weeks ago out of aluminum 5056 3/16 thick and it has served me well to protect the underside of the adventure bike.

Agreed get an estimates and look at the Squarewave 200 if you decide it is DOA. I have one and after two years I am enjoying welding steel and aluminum with no complaint.

Re: Everlast welders or never last welders

Strange I had a Everlast and it worked fine but I needed to weld some aluminum, so got the Lincoln Squarewave 200 and I don't seem to have any of the complaints like duty cycle or failures others mention. I was able to sell the Everlast in no time at all. I like having a dealer to walk into for the ...

Odd you should mention about "nothing stated in manual" as my manual clearly states the bushing has two usable sides one inch and five eights. Maybe mine is a next generation. I bought an Irwin brand 5/8 arbor blade and fit fine.

Re: Welding in your basement

Yes insurance companies will not pay if they find a welder in the rubble. My welder is in an unattached pole barn, my agent said any loss in the garage is on me now.
