Re: Brazing Stop-Off

Liquid white-out works a treat to stop braze flowing where you don't want it to be.

Re: Argon prices

Not sure what it relates to in the US, but I got a price yesterday for a Size D bottle, (10L) the smallest, $147, inc one years rental.

The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Just a little dice, 50x50mm squares, tacked up. Will be closed up with tig once I'm a lot better at it.

Just noticed your name, have a friend on a distilling forum from Tokaroa. Student here myself with only a couple months left to go in my course here in Canada. Looked at your course and seems very similar. Best advice from on student to another: put the time in behind the stick. If you get frustrat...

Looking for a TIG setup

Hey there. Are there any kiwi Welders I the Waikato/BOP region that have, or know of a cheap TIG setup for sale? I need the machine and gas bottle.
Thanks :-)

Re: Newby Question. Should I learn all 3 at once?

I'd start off with a MIG at home. Fairly easy to master as opposed to the others.
As for welding without gas, it can be done with MIG using a flux core wire.

Re: Finishing aluminum.

Have a look at your local hard ware/renovation store. You should be able to get different grades of 3M scotch brite. I used to work for an anodising company and to get the Ali parts to shine we would go over them good with three grits in order. Red, green, white. Of course your colours may vary.

Sadly, it sounds like he's taking out of his bum bum.
The mere fact that you had to ask if it was a good weld, should be an indication that it's not.

Oh wow. I don't have much experience with TIG, but if I had paid for that to be done. Id be asking for my money back.
