I like pausing briefly after dipping in some filler. Cut up some 1/8" sheet and ran some T-joints for practice. Also giving up on caring what amperage and just using the foot pedal. Still gotta work on tapering down near corners to not melt the egdes but I'm very happy. Forgot I had the machin...

Re: Few questions

Try adding a slight pause after you add filler. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk What will this accomplish? It makes it much easier to keep the edges of the puddle even and it gives a more uniform look. I dont have extra freeze ridges in my beads so I cant really answer that. Sent from my SCH-I...

I had about 40 hours in the boat including the rework. Thanks, also. I like the boat work.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

A flying bridge for a 28 foot boat. The first set are the original build to the customer's specs. He wanted all the lines from the bottom structure to continue into the top and the front legs had to land on top of the bottom pipes for control wire accesd. After completion he decided it was too tall....

Re: Bubbles/air in silicon bronze TIG braze?

This is si bronze on naval brass. Use ac with 80% EN. Brass has zinc in it that will burn off and leave holes. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180409/471bae70cd69976358a61584046fc270.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180409/01407e99ba27532c51d669204dcab1c5.jpg Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tap...

Re: TIG welding aluminum - no clear puddle, cleaning action

I would check your torch angle. It needs to be close to 90 to the workpiece not angled forward like steel. That can cause some of these problems, too.

Re: Help with aluminum project

I recently had a bottle of bad gas the turned everything black and bubbly. I weld a lot of aluminum and I would think of a gas issue first. Try more gas (even 30 or 40) and then a different bottle if available.

Re: Tig welding on tubing and round parts

The torch would be in line with the weld seam. Your hand would be rotated out to the right with the hand oriented with the palm down. I dont really know what to call this. This would be for horizontal seam. I will try to get a pic at work tomorrow. This isnt earth shattering news. I just dont know h...

Re: Tig welding on tubing and round parts

I will try to describe this trick and not be too confusing. Instead of holding the torch with the handle pointing towards you, hold the torch at a 90 to your body with palm down. The torch handle would be pointing out to the right for a right handed welder. Put the cup on your workpiece in front of ...

We have a good shop. Most of our work is beach homes. It's mostly high end ornamental. We have a job coming up for 25 spiral staircases with the possibility of 50 more. I really like the work.

It's a project for for the coastal conservancy. It will be a sea turtle monument. I think the material wss around 10k. This was the small one. We still have to make the stands. They are supposed to be 14 feet at the tallest. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180224/aac4987c3bc658ffb3b2bf5d31c2c464....
