Re: Need some info on a hood and lenses please.

I keep a passive hood on hand and use it every once in a while to stay in practice. Not a bad idea to keep a redundant passive around in case the autodark battery fails, or what. So, asking to find out, not to challenge your approach: why convert a passive helmet to autodark?

Re: Newbie

Three things I tell my kids about working: Show up, Shut up, and Keep up. Any decent employer will give you a chance if you present yourself well, show up every day to learn and work hard. Show everyone respect at work, no matter if you think you know better. And pay attention to what you're told, ...

Never heard of kiswel, but their website (and your photo) says it's er70-s2. Why would they rename it, who knows, maybe the same reason Lincoln renamed 7018 to Excalibur.

Re: Hi everybody! Advice?

I looked at the Knight website, and a couple things do and don't jump out. First, they're an AWS accredited test facility, and if their syllabus and course fees include AWS certification then it may be worth further consideration. What DOESN'T jump out is the cost of the courses: i poked around the ...

Re: Hi everybody! Advice?

Welcome to the forum! I'm impressed that you've paid off the house: free and clear has a nice ring to it. "Limited welding experience" suggests to me you might invest in some training. That could also be an indicator of whether you truly like welding enough to stay with it long term. With ...

You may want to hold some of your budget in reserve to buy consumables and argon, too.

Re: Not getting weekly video's

In a recent podcast Jody mentioned he would present future videos as part of a cohesive plan. So if he needs time to get the plan together i'm sure the wait will be worth it! Jody has set a high bar, by offering such informative content in >short< videos. A lot of other videos could improve by follo...

Re: Welding Experiments

One of Jody's videos features a 7014 rod in a stinger, no human touch involved, balanced so the weld end of the electrode is held by gravity against the workpiece. The arc strikes and the electrode feeds itself into the weld. Not really an "experiment" but possibly good for a demo, or a le...

Everlast has a toll free number to contact the sales group directly, as i recall. I can't speak to their ability to answer emails, but if the email was something non-specific like "is it available" they may prioritize that lower, who knows. The Everlast forum would likely generate a respon...

Welcome to the forum! A helmet would be a fine gift, one your brother will appreciate. There's more to a helmet than the design, though: lens size, number of sensors, weight, fit and comfort of headgear, etc. Or did you consider those things already?

My condolences as well. That kind of loss is devastating, and I wish the best to you and your family.

I hope your health concerns get sorted out, too. I wonder if another play would be a strain on your body, or if it's just the kind of therapy you might need just now.

In addition to Tweake's suggestions about clamping your ground to shiny bright steel, and welding on shiny bright steel, here's a video that may be helpful. Notice how close the welding gun is to the steel, and how Jody maintains that distance.

Re: Re-building and using a Smiths MW5/MC509 Oxy Acetylene T

I had a good experience with RegulatorTorchRepair.com too. I've DIY'd regulator rebuilds but not torches, so i sent a torch and cutting attachment off to them. Got a call from the owner describing what he'd do, and the torch came back looking and working like new. Plastic cover on a gauge: replaceme...
