Can using too big of a cup.....say 3/4" with a gas lens.....compared to a 1/2.......with a gas lens......be detrimental to the weld?

That's a neat table and I agree with Steve ..you got more goodies there than most top fab shops...did you build the table yourself? I built it myself......the adjustable top idea i got on the Internet. This is the 4th version/modifcation i made on the table. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f354/r...

There is a whole lot more that you don't see in the pics.

My thoughts on a small home biz is to have good equipment and enough of it. I hate coming up short on tools.

Re: Helium And Added False Amps???

Interesting question. I'm not sure how one would quantify it, short of advanced mathematics to give theoretical values. I have used helium mixes (in approximate quantities from two flow-meters) and can't even give you a rough guess. Steve S Steve I know a ballpark quess is there somewhere. The reas...

When you add a Helium mix to your argon is there a rough calculation on how many simulated amps you gain?

Seriously though whatever it is looks good, and I got a toolbox full of clamps myself. That's a nice lookin workbench you've got there as well....

Frequency And Heat Input???

I heard that keeping your frequency low puts more heat into the metal than having the frequency high.

Is this true and if so how is this happening?

This aluminum is for a mockup for a high end job my company is doing in a few months. This is to simulate an extruded piece of aluminum that will be used on that job. The actual extruded piece is a few months out.

This is the best way......where i work we have an old brake call a Roto-die. The top blade is knife edge cut
......it gets real inaccurate when the depth varies.

Re: The pedal has me spoiled.

I have often thought that a torch with a spring loaded trigger to control amps (like the slot car controls back in yhe the day) might work. When i saw CK come out with the pistol grip i thought......here it is......but as i understand it the CK pistol grip is not spring loaded.

I have worked on a few of my SSC pedals. Patience is the trick to getting them back together. Also wearing rubber coated gloves helps. It is very easy to pitch your fingers.

Re: any ideas for a homemade post flow control?

You could always get a torch with a valve. The first tig welder i bought was a Miller Econotig. It has a 15 sec. postflow. Having the ability to shut the valve off was a simple way of controlling postflow. You want to change the torch anyway.
