Re: Goliath CNC knee mill
I'd like to see a skid steer that can lift 6,000 lbs. 2500 is more like it for a skid steer. If I remember right, skid steer lift ratings typically are for at full lift height with movement. If you leave that sucker no more than a foot off the ground you can do a lot of work. Pallet forks may start...

My school doesn't do much pipe but will be a part of the associates degree next year. I mean if your in Texas and 95% of graduates are gonna weld pipe, you teach pipe. I'd still do the basics like t-joints because it is a neccsesarry skill. In my area there isn't a ton of pipe and a lot of fabricati...

I'll also add that with a wire brushes, especially cup brushes, they work well because the spin at a lower rpm so they don't grab as bad and don't vibrate as much.

May as well go with the Milwaukee. You've got batteries already. I've only used the dewalt cordless grinder and it is the nadir at tool on the farm. Use it almost every day for anything you can think of. This last year we upgraded and got the conversion kit to use the 20v lithium batteries and now t...

Nick, You will take good care of them, since you own them. I wouldn't worry about the lifetime warranty. Companies are pros of getting out of these warranties anyway. Your torches will NEVER look like the torches at your school! Yup. I have learned that in the last few years. When you spend a lot o...

So what actually seems regulators unusable. I mean I've used some that it was so fogged and wore that I couldn't read the numbers and just guessed and did as best as I could for 30 seconds of cutting on a neighbors farm and had really good success. Would I do it again-probably not but I had to do wh...

A little dissapointment
I went to my local LWS and did some asking about the Msith torch sets I was looking at. My unlce offered to buy one he found for $300 to finish paying me and get a tax ride off but I was looking at one for $211. The difference is a slightly different rosebud a slightly different torch head and up un...

Re: New Vise Grips (thumbs down)
They are hit and miss. The big c clamp ones without pads are great for holding stuff for grinding but they bend too easily the 7 and 10 in normal classic vise grips still work phenomenal for me. Use them on every project and for every repair job in the farm. They are used as door handles and other r...

We had finals at our high school and I only had "one final" which was a "reflection" and cleaning the shop. I used the other 6 hours to make parts for my roses. Got parts for 35 cut out and extras of some parts. Have 18 ready to be bent and have to get some more 1/4" rod. I ...

Re: Welding Experiments
One of Jody's videos features a 7014 rod in a stinger, no human touch involved, balanced so the weld end of the electrode is held by gravity against the workpiece. The arc strikes and the electrode feeds itself into the weld. Not really an "experiment" but possibly good for a demo, or a l...

I always enjoy scratching a 6010 on some plate and then polishing and bending it to see how devastating arc strikes can be. Or tacking a piece of angle iron to a table a foot in and then putting a tack on it and putting all my weight on it and then simply lift it up and break the tack to show how im...

So I've been trying to build up my skills in the world of oxy acetylene welding and brazing. I can't get an accurate readout in the regulator either it seems but close enough to get a neu...

Re: Looking at a new welder, can't decide
I've only used the 211 and can say it is a solid machine. I've used with self shielded flux core mostly but it does a good job on 110 and 220 volt. Me personally I would go with the multiprocess route myself though. Always nice to have the stick option. I can't speak to which multiprocess is better....

I agree whole heartedly. We have both machines at school and the squarewave is hands down better. Better foo...
