Re: Stick welding heat control
Welcome to the forum! Stick is controlled by your amperage adjustment and arc length. With mig, amperage is controlled by your WFS as I've come to know it. The more wire you have coming out, the more heat you need to burn it off. Which is easier you ask? Depends on a lot of variables. Me period ally...

Re: Hi everybody! Advice?
Step 1 is decide what you want to do in welding. Tons of stuff to do that requires different equipment choices. Some classes are in order, that might help you narrow down what you want to do. Without a direction you can easily spend way more than the $5k and not really be any closer to what you wan...

Re: 6010 uphill.. Frustrating
I'll just say this: welding 6010 is not something you can "learn" by watching. It is a very tricky rod to learn, uphill even harder, so don't become frustrated too early. Until you have burned about 50# of it in every direction, consider yourself a COMPLETE novice. Then, you begin again w...

What's the biggest project you've worked on?
I was bored today and was looking around at zalk josephs fabricators, took a tour there a month ago, and saw their project at 150 north riverside in Chicago. It weighed it at like 18.8 million pounds of steel and had some steel 10 inches thick so I was wondering whats the biggest stuff you guys have...

Have any post flow? I don't know a whole lot but if I have a rod break off very easily it usually is lacking gas flow so after you terminate the arc is there any post flow?

Everything seems like it's perfect until you try something better. I always thought our Airco stick welder at school was fine and it was me that was the problem. Used a dynasty and a precision tig to stick weld once and I realized that the machine was dying or having problems.

Trying to picture the two gorillas who could handle a V8 diesel racing saw carving a grizzly out of a tree trunk. Methinks using a battery chainsaw logging would be akin to taking a very small knife to a very large gunfight! I have a little 20v B+D chainsaw that is great for limb trimming and rough...

Really handy to take to the big box, if you need to cut anything out of wood, it's very useful. If you don't have something to carry a full sheet of plywood or long timber, a cordless circular saw or chainsaw can come in real handy. I will say, I've had some people staring at me when I fire up a ch...

a gift from my wife. It's great for tacking and squaring frames and tacking tall vertical pieces (using tabs). As time goes by I'm sure it will find more uses. See the video of JD Bewer using the square: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-5epY4SCKk Lucky guy. Your wife knows what is going on.

Re: Cordless grinder
Ok so after a weeks worth of use I have to say I’m pretty happy with it. I put it through it’s paces and with the 5.0 batteries it lasted a good amount of time. It feels just as strong as my corded grinders, of course it’s a little slower RPM but still easily gets the job done. Like I said before t...

Re: Copper Brazing with Silicon Bronze for Home Brewery
Hello all, A friend of mine asked me to make him some workpieces out of copper for his home brewery. Ultimately I want to TIG braze the copper together with Silicon Bronze. 1) Is silicon bronze safe for this application? If not, what would you use? 2) When I've tried to braze with the sil bro, the ...

Re: are all electrodes certified by some organization
The AWS has a set list of standards and tolerances for electrodes. The tolerances are enough that an Excalibur 7018 burns different than your Hobart 7018. Same weld deposit properties but some companies have additives to enhance operation like reducing sticking

Nick, I'm sure you're aware or familiar with regulatortorchrepair.com, but if not and you have a decent regulator, you can get it rebuilt for about $50 rather than getting a new one. http://www.regulatortorchrepair.com/index.php No affiliation, just a satisfied customer, they do good work IMO. So I've had my torch set for less than a week now and used extensively today. At around 9:00 this morning o realized my oxygen regulator was pulsing. Since college doesn't start till next week I got my entire afternoon at school free and live in the shop. Decided to build me a vise to make my roses at home more easily. Whole lot of 1/8" angle iron. I'd paint it but I'm just going to burn it off at some point so I figured I didn't need it. No...

You know what they say about opinions. For the cost of one of those pieces of shiite I can put receptacles avery six feet from one end of the shop to the other, on both walls, and not have to deal with the battery scam.
