Re: I thought buying another welder would be "easier"!......

Jmedic25, Thanks for your review on the Everlast 230i. I nearly bought one right when they came out I don't doubt the quality, capability, or craftsmanship of Everlast welders. My concern is when/if it does go down my business will be without a tool that I rely on to make a living. Sure it may be c...

Re: Circular cuts count...right?

Morse taper 3 will allow you to get large drill bits as well as some milling and boring tools. I'm looking forward to that. Made me happy to see the 'MT3' spindle spec. Can anyone recommend any type of X-Y axis drilling vice/rig that might allow me to do some very basic milling with this machine? O...

Re: Circular cuts count...right?

Still don't have the drill home (pick up is June 1st, its one of those defence things...) but have found some specs on it. Woodman TP-2801F. 1.5hp motor, 12 speed, 20mm chuck, spindle taper MT3. Appears to be a superseded model but don't really care, looks like a solid piece of kit that'll do what I...

Re: Diagnose this!!! I'm losing patience

Don't hate aluminium...you'll get there. It's just a bit more fussy than steel and you have to be able to read the puddle and control the heat. Your tungsten is smoked up - it should be just plain, clean silver. Both the tungsten and the second puddle (the one on the right) look to me like you dippe...

Re: Filler Wire container

Nice.

I need to make up some small ones like these. Because my LWS's are pretty much useless, I buy most of my filler online and to make postage easier/cheaper, it is often sold in 33cm/13" length. A few, say, 14" filler containers would be very handy.

Re: Circular cuts count...right?

Very very nice. My drill press changed my life. You'll probably find that that is a morse taper chuck as well, which means you can knock out the keyless chuck and put in a morse drill up to about 20mm Thanks blokes. Yet to get the drill into my hot little hands, but my brother sighted it and purcha...

Thanks fellas. Hi mossie, haven't heard from you for a while, welcome back. Sent using Tapatalk Cheers Coldie. Yeah, life took an interesting turn for a moment there so I was off the air for awhile. Nothing too dramatic and all back on track now. Very happy to be loitering around these parts again....

The scanners will detect the shape but they are not that common yet. Been thru a fair amount of airports and the only one I seen was either in Dubai or London. Been a while since I was in the US though so they might be more common there. Always wanted to ask immigration about one question on the ca...

Re: Aluminium rim repair

Also curious.

I've had many opportunities and requests to repair (motorcycle) rims and have always said 'no', as I am concerned that a failure at the track could be very dangerous and I am not particularly savvy regarding metallurgy/annealing/fatigue failures of these critical parts.

I'll second the Knipex recommendation. I have several sets. I Cary and like the ones with the push button adjustment. You can adjust them one handed. The jaws are a little narrower, open farther, and the metal quality is better than even Chanel lock brand. Yes indeed. Without meaning to make this i...

I decided to see if lanthanated tungsten was any more friendly than E3. I have a feeling the problem will still boil down to a total lack of skill on my part. Interesting thread. For what it's worth, I've been Tig welding almost 2 years now (steel, stainless, aluminium) and until recently I'd never used a gas lens that was anything but 'fine China'. ;) My LWS doesn't even know what a gas lens is and with exchange rates and freight, the US/Europe brand nam...

I wonder if 'progressive lenses' are what we in the Southern Colonies refer to as 'multi-focals?' My eyes were damaged as a result of drugs used following surgery on my brain and I've needed glasses ever since I escaped from hospital some years ago. I don't have a problem with normal 'single vision'...

Hi Gavin and welcome. I agree with Mick...this can be done with any decent Tig machine, some skill and practise. I weld together stubs of 1.2mm stainless filler wire often enough and I am not an especially skilled welder. 1mm is not a big step down. A good sharp electrode and a steady hand are impor...

Agree with what others have said regarding bad torch angle.

Also, no need to ball the electrode if you are using an inverter.

Finally, your welds look cold to me...hope this is some help.
