Re: Fronius MW230i or Kemppi Mastertig 235?

Fronius is the best you can buy. But you need to make sure that you can take advantage of the all the benefits attached to that quality. If you are just starting out, you can get great deals on second hand equipment and make sure use your money in the best possible place, like maybe sheet metal equi...

We use those on big trolleys to lock them in place without having to lock all the wheels. Usually two on opp diagonals. I don't know what they are called though.

Re: Some new wear bars

For anyone not in the earthmoving field (no pun intended) the wear bars are spaced apart like that so they trap the dirt in between. That way the trapped dirt protects the steel underneath.

P.S: Id hazard a guess to say that 0.040 thickness aluminium would be rather problematic to learn on. Get some scrap. 125thou to play with until you get your eye in.

With that aluminium solder, there's a few good brands and about a million terrible ones. Look at the price range and do your research based on that.

You can buy a 3m welders respirator kit, with the appropriate face mask, filter and cleaning equipment/instructions in a storage container. Takes all the guess work out of it.

Re: MIG or Stick for 1/2" Plate?

What size weld did you end up achieving? The biggest problem you can find with small diameter mig wire is that if you try to push the weld size too much, you can lay too much cold metal into the joint, and have lack of fusion. But if your job is OK, that's the proof.

S6 works better on mill scale and light grime. S4 do not like anything like that. I used S4 on newly shot blasted steel.

Re: MIG or Stick for 1/2" Plate?

I should also mention that I would agree that you need. 045 diameter mig wire to weld that well effectively. The main issue being, the stick welding doesn't require any extra equipment except for bigger rods, and a finger capable of turning the machine up. Mig requires a big mig, flux core will mayb...

Hey mate. You have a fantastic machine there. I haven't heard anything bad about them. I know a few people who have been making sculptures from cutlery. There's actually a guy not far from me called the spanner man. You can guess what he is doing. That's right, bananas. No. He's at Boort, Victoria.

Re: tig aluminum welding inside 90 degree corners

I just scanned over the top of these posts, but one critical thing to be mentioned (may have been already) is make sure haven't contaminated the aluminium withe steel. Like with a steel wire brush or a grinding or sanding disc that has been used on steel. It'll stop the puddle from flowing and cause...

Re: MIG or Stick for 1/2" Plate?

If you have a big mig 350 amps or bigger, go for it. The world is welded with migs. But a decent stick welder, 180 amps or more will weld this. Jody said, with a 3.25mm stick rod, you can weld just about anything if you have time.
