Re: Pole barn heat
I have an IR type heater in my house, and the drawback is that they heat objects directly in the path of their "radiation pattern". You are correct that they can get too hot if you're in that path. Personally, I'd rather have a heater that heats the air and have warm air circulating about ...

Just line the appropriate walls for the welding area with Hardie board, and you're good to go.

Re: Plasma cutting from underneath
How about relieving the corners first with a large hole saw, and then finishing the cuts with the wheel on the angle grinder? I have some reservations about the upside down plasma cutter. And to be completely honest, they're just hunches, since I've never tried cutting overhead with mine.

I'm pretty easy to please. I keep 6011, 7014, and 7018 around in 3/32" and 1/8". I'll buy some Ni rod if I have some cast iron to weld, but I don't generally stock it.

Re: tig weld vs tig braze
The etched picture seems to show a weld "nugget" with penetration into the base metal. Am I misreading this photo or was a weld etched sample put in video by mistake? Or does the braze metal etch like that. Starting at 2:47 in, Jody states that the weld is on the left and the TIG braze on...

Re: I would appreciate any answers to my rookie question
My earlier post got interrupted and I thought I lost it- as ldbtx says, look into the AHP 200 also. Heard good things about it. Many machines are dual voltage, meaning they'll run off both 110v and 220v. Everlast has a couple dual voltage machines- is the AHP dual? Depending on the layout of the ho...

You can get the AHP AlphaTIG 200x for about $900. It's AC/DC TIG + stick. Mine's a 2015 model, and for 2016 they've expanded the capabilities. Wider range on frequency and pulse IIRC. I like mine, had no trouble with it.

Back in the '70s, when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I was living off-grid in SoCal, I was working with a friend who lived about a quarter-mile away and was also off-grid. Nicely done! +1 on the expanded metal.
I'd been thinking about a side-by-side cart, and now seeing it done I think I'll go ahead and do it that way. Thanks for the inspiration.

I've got a Tweco Fabricator 211i. It's 120/240 and does GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, and lift arc GTAW. It'll take 12" spools, which is a nice touch. I'm really happy with it. $900 + tax at my LWS.

Re: Ever forget how to weld?
Among other things, I sometimes forget that I'm stick welding and think I'm migging. Then wonder why my arc length gets super long as my hands are braced on the bench instead of traveling in with the rod. Yeah, that's one of my usual screw-ups too. I MIG so much more than I use stick, that when I s...

I've been running an MM252 in the shop at work for about 3 years now. Great machine. I don't have a single grumble about it. We don't run a spool gun, but it's got gun memories, so it retains the settings for whichever gun you have connected. I'd buy it again.

Re: AHP Alpha Tig with Bobcat 250.
If your Bobcat 250 is the same as my 225, the 240 volt recep is a NEMA 14-50R. The plug on the AHP (I have one) is a NEMA 6-50P. You need an adapter with a 14-50P plug on one end and a 6-50R recep on the other. Miller sells one under the name "Full field adapter" or something like that. Th...
