There are few thinks I dislike more than repairing someone else's failed repair attempt.

Good on you for not throwing tools and whipping asses.

Re: Backer for TIG welding copper

Suppose you back the copper with hard-anodized aluminum? That melting point is going to be significantly higher than the copper, with the aluminum behind the anodizing as a heat sink.

I've not tried it. Just thinking out loud.

I hope I'm not misunderstanding.
You're looking for electrical/electronic schematics and drawings for this machine?

Or ways to interface to it to upgrade software?

Re: Backer for TIG welding copper

Here's a source for ceramic weld backing: http://catalog.gullco.com/viewitems/ceramic-weld-backing/katbak-ceramic-weld-backing I've used this a lot in MIG welding, but never tried it for copper, or even TIG. Carbon blocks are another option, but it sound's like you'd have to shape those to the speci...

My attempt to see these images told me (in my limited French) that I do not have permission to view these pages.

Try copying the pages to your computer and sharing them that way?

There is a program called "Helmets to Hardhats", designed specifically to take veterans into the trades after discharge. Give that a google, and see what you find in your area.

Mates, I am kinda puzzled with those solenoid torches, valves lift scratch ingition TIGs. If I buy a 160 amp MMA welder machine that has "simple" TIG scratch option and has torch with gas valve, can I use a more advanced TIG torch with built in solenoid and get things workin`? (I am at th...

Re: Welding SS 304 with SS 310

310 is a fully austenitic rod with no residual ferrite content, which makes it very prone to hot-cracking without very strict heat controls. 347 is the same way. 309, 312, and 316 are your better choices. Another option is NiCrMo-3, but I'd start with 312 to keep the properties similar. If it's non-...

Take it from me , do not get sucked in. Sure it's fun, but you probably will not make a living doing it. Yep. Now do it in front of 100+ people you've never met who've paid $30 apiece to watch you do it. Re: Galvanized mudguard repair

Agreed.

When repairing something that cracked, the repair method is secondary to figuring out why it cracked the first time. If you can't find and fix the root cause, you'll just fix it again later and your customer will not be happy.

Olek,

Perhaps with this question you would do well to post it in French, and allow one of or Quebecois members to translate? I'm having difficulty understanding the question.

Re: total newb question

I have to agree with Dave. While flux-cure is definitely the less expensive entry point, choosing a machine that can do either is an excellent idea, as it gives you the opportunity to be more versatile in the future. Another great advantage of a gas-capable machine is that it usually has the circuit...

I've never done aluminum MIG so i'm out of my depth, but- the OP gave 35 cfm as the argon rate. That seems high- is 35 in the right range? (I checked the Miller weld calculator but it didn't give a flow rate.) Yep, that's right in the ballpark. The last time I saw an actual WPS for aluminum MIG, th...

Yep, I assume delamination failures will occur with any coupons cut from this end of the sheet. I had my TIG coupons pass, with material cut from much farter up the sheet, and that WPS is now qualified. I'm going to have to cut another set of coupons from that end of the sheet, and I will polish and...

I think the point's been well made that this "builder" doesn't know his arse from his elbow, and you would do well to run him off. The price is ridiculous for the work delivered. If that's a swing gate, yes, it needs diagonal bracing. I prefer (for a single rack brace) to run it from the t...
