Die grinder... Make a template of the correct shape first, weld it, then grind it to shape.

Re: Vertical and overhead Aluminum MIG
I'm thinking it has more to do with spray transfer vs short circuit. Maybe I just need to dial things back a bit and get away from the spray.

Aluminum with a spoolgun...
Steel isn't a problem, but aluminum gobs up and blows holes something fierce. I usually give up and fire up my Dynasty. The spoolgun is so much faster though.

Vertical and overhead Aluminum MIG
I run a MM252 with a 30A spoolgun and am constantly fighting with anything out of position. A video with some tips for vertical and overhead would be GREATLY appreciated!

Cor-Met TIG rods?
Have any of you tried these flux coated TIG rods for SS? Supposedly you don't need a back purge as the flow produces a slag that protects the backside of the weld.

Re: once you have a problem bead
If the filler beads on either side, heat probably isn't the problem. It sounds like something is gassing out in those places and dividing the puddle. Maybe a bit of cleaner or oil is trapped?

Is this sealing up a container of sorts? I've had issues with the air trapped inside blowing the puddle out when I try to seal things up.

Re: once you have a problem bead
Are you not using any filler? That should close up easily with a bit of filler rod. The gap in the crack will keep you from doing a fusion weld.

Re: Cutting Perfect angles on pipe Mandrel bends
Part of your issue is the width of the kerf being even for both the long and short sides of the bend. If you are cutting a straight piece of pipe, a 1/16" kerf is no big deal. When you cut through the middle of a bend, the kerf really needs to be slightly narrower on the inside compared to the ...

Another vote for the 252, I love mine. I upgraded last year from my 250X and the 252 is a much better machine. It runs my 30A spoolgun very well also.

Sealing up a cavity?
I asked this over on WW and didn't get much for a solution... I was building a small aluminum rack for a customer today. Simple design, thin wall 1x1 square tubing for most of it. I tigged it together and each time I tried to finish the last weld on a piece of tubing, it would blow out from the hot ...

Re: Dynasty 200DX A/C Pulse
You may not notice much of a change in arc character. You should be able to see/hear the pulsing when your pulse rate is low (<50 or so). I don't notice a significant change in the arc, but I can hear it and it generally requires a few more amps to get things done.

Re: aluminum fuel cell
College professors constantly preached relentlessly cleaning aluminum to us during our TIG class. I was just discussing this with my LWS owner and he also says too much emphasis is out on cleaning for 90% of aluminum jobs. He only hits things with a wire brush if the pieces are visibly dirty and nev...

Christmas came early!
So I sold off my mint condition Syncro 250DX and picked up a Dynasty 200DX! It took two weeks to get here but it looks to be worth the wait. This thing is tiny compared to the Syncro... Hopefully it packs the punch they claim. I'm looking forward to exploring the new options an inverter machine offe...

Changing of the guard...
Well, I sold off my mint condition Syncrowave 250DX. Kind of sad seeing it go...
But...
I also just ordered a brand spanking new Dynasty 200DX. So, I guess there is a silver lining...
It's going to be a long 10-14 days waiting for it to get here!

There are a few videos on YouTube about "flame straightening". I managed to get myself out of a bind on a couple of jobs after watching the vids. Pretty much sucks to see a 20' stick of 2x2x1/4 start resembling a banana. A little heat and a spray bottle of water brought it back without muc...

Re: Chop saws what do y'all recommend for a hobbiest
As a hobbyist, you can get away with an inexpensive abrasive chop saw. If you don't mind spending a few more $$, step up to a dry cut saw. Your accuracy, speed, and cleanliness will improve dramatically. I started with a Ridgid abrasive saw and am now running an MK Morse 14" dry cut. Needless t...
