Re: Optrel e684-x1 - LOVE!

entity-unknown, I am glad you like your e684. I have one with the PAPR set up and love the helmet. All the settings work like they should and it is nice to have that external grind mode button. I got the helmet to test the auto shade and the PAPR mainly. The auto shade has its place for sure but is ...

Re: TODAY!

Welcome to the welding addiction! I can't wait to see your progress. I wish you lived closer to me, I have a ton of 1/2" plate you could use for a welding table top. Those Bobcats are great little machines for sure. Keep posting your story and progress.

If you hold out and learn 4G before testing then you will be certified to weld 1, 2, 3 & 4 ---- G & F . You aren't terribly far from this place, maybe 3 - 4 hours: http://m.georgiatradeschool.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.georgiatradeschool.com%2F&dm_redirected=true#2931 Plate test at this ...

Re: Welding Tips & Tricks Podcast

Weldakota, I am glad that helped. That was one of the most unknown topics to me when I started. I had no idea how to price or quote jobs. Learned through experience I have gained so far and the help of good friends. On another note, episode 7 went live today. We interviewed Joel Buschmann of Overkil...

Re: Welding Tips & Tricks Podcast

Episode 6 of the Welding Tips & Tricks Podcast "Pricing Jobs" is now live. This was probably the most fun topic to record with Jody and Roy. Pricing jobs is always nerve racking when starting out, and still is for me at times. If you haven't listened to any of the podcasts yet give epi...

Jon, I hope you and the rest of the welding community enjoy the podcasts. Yes, we still are holding a guest interview every other podcast. That might change according to what we have going on but interviews will always be there. The interviews have the most hits on them as far as downloads so our au...

I can't believe I actually scrolled and skimed through all of this. Looks like we need a new section in the forum for plastics. Always interested! It would be a great podcast to talk about how things are done in Oz verses US. Expose the audience to things they haven't heard about and all.

Steve,
Instagram only works as intended on a smart phone or tablet. You can look and like and comment on your computer but just cannot post pictures or videos from the computer version. At least as far as I know as of now.

Steve, I guess the main focus is Instagram since that is where we spend most of our time and is extremely popular with the welder crowd these days. Don't worry though, there are other topics that will be of interest as well. The next episode will be a good one for everyone even if you are not heavil...

Re: Where do you get your aluminum chill blocks?

Funny you should ask that question. I was asking several other welders what they thought about Superior selling certain sizes of alum, copper and brass as chill blocks. Large steel supply companies generally won't sell to the public and I have heard more than once the complaint that welders in certa...

Wow. I want one of those sintered bronze mufflers!!! I could use it in my purge chamber to really do some argon diffusion. ;) Looks like a good little project for sure.

Re: 3F vertical up issues

Looks to me that you just need to hold the sides a little longer so the profile of the weld will flatten out a little more. What are your settings (wire size, gas, volt, amps, etc)? That will help as well. I always tell others that it should be as hot as you can stand and look like it is falling out...

so my company wants to have certified welders? as far as i know there are no demands by customers for it not invoked in contracts. Re: Showing up to take a welding test

A local factory here in Wooster told me several times they will take 10 applications, 2 will pass the drug test, out of those who show up, and eventually one will stay on long term. Sad really. The drug test is the "killer" here. I just don't understand that. A friend that works for a comp...

I agree with Nick, go for a suitcase welder of your preferred brand over dragging a shoo welder in the field. You will much happier. One area of concern. You mentioned welding 3/8"-3/4" alum that is structural in nature. I have been in a few shop and tried to advise them that were using Mi...

Re: Setting a miller 252 for spray transfer

Pure argon can be used but you will have serious LOF issues and in turn no depth of fusion. I did some weld samples using pure argon and the bends didn't get very far at all before the base metal basically pulled away from the weld metal. I cannot recommend it ever be used for mig welding. To answer...
