Big project, for me anyway...
Keep an eye on this one for updates guys. I will be posting pictures periodically for all to see and critique if you feel the urge. What we are doing is taking an old stainless steel milk tanker and adding an AR steel sump and pumping unit for transferring liquid from one tank to another. Here is a ...

Re: What gas part 2
Hey thanks Mick. It blows my mind to think about how many gasses there are and that thye all were mixed just for different welding procedures and things of that nature :? . I wish one would work for several things but it seems like that's not really gonna be an option. Question for you though Mick.....

What gas part 2
Ok heres another dumb question from yours truly. I know in Jody's recent videos he says he uses a straight argon for migging aluminum. Is that the best gas? I think I had somebody tell me that helium will work good too. Is this true? I'm trying to get my mobile spool gun set-up so that I can switch ...

Re: What Gas?
Thanks a lot! I guess I will have to inquire with Lincoln on which gas is required. I was wanting to use Ultracore FCP309L all position for disimilar metals.

millwright work - any experience?
Has anyone here worked or is currently working as a millwright welder for grain systems? I might be able to get some pretty steady contract work with a company that i am familiar with. Does anybody have any pointers to give for this type of work?

Re: Wanting to start a welding biz
I live in Sugarcreek, just east of Dover/New Philadelphia. I see you are from Youngstown jpence. A fellow Buckeye. My backround is with Ag equipment but I know a lot of people in oil and gas which is what my in-laws are into. I also have a long time family friend who is a pipeliner and another that ...

Re: Wanting to start a welding biz
Thanks man. That makes sense. There is a large shale gas boom going on right now. The manufacturing is growing well too. The only reason i would go after hardfacing business is because I know of some oppertunity in the Ag industry. I would be leaving my dads equipment dealership to pursue welding. H...

Re: INSTRUCTOR GOING ON MY OWN
I like Eds response. Don't go deep into debt to do it. Period. You have enough savings to get going at least part time. I'd start out part time and as you establish the business and let it pay for itself the you can make the leap. Buy some used stuff; garage sales, auctions, flea markets etc... Just...

Re: Plasma cutting
My experience with this is: Nitrogen work well and so does an air compressor if you have an effective method of drying the air. Some welding shops may have a small portable dessicant filter that will get the air dry enuff for a portable plaz. Looks kinda like a large oil filter. Happy cutting!

Wanting to start a welding biz
Anyone out there making a living off of hardfacing? What about build-ups? Or maybe custom pipe/tube/or part cutting? I'm a one man band that wnats to leave family biz for personal reasons and my best talent/skill is welding. I'm looking for some advice on whether I could focus on one of my welding s...

Re: flux cored hard facing wire
I guess we werent aware that it was for metal to metal. Is this a problem? I guess we dont need severe abrasion resistance because its not sand to steel and it is low speed. I went for a moderate abrasion resistance and low impact tolerance because there is no impact situations. The material is wet ...

Re: flux cored hard facing wire
We are working with large diameter augers for wet and dry fibrous material low to no impact. We have kinda determined through Lincoln that Lincore 55 or compatible would be the best choice. I'm more looking for techniques and things like that.
