A pic of each pass where the problem is occuring would help, minus that, what I've seen a lot of people do is not stick the sides adequately or in the right place, and end up with a ropy log looking thing in the middle.

A lot of people don't understand the difference between how much they get paid and how much something costs to do. They're getting paid X, and think that is how much something should cost because they don't understand how much back end work and expense goes in to the entirety of a given job plus shu...

I prefer less, like a couple deg. off of 90, but that becomes pretty subjective as people find their own preferences.

Re: 6010 uphill.. Frustrating
I think the "frustration" comes from not knowing what exactly to look for, what I'm doing right/wrong. I'm sure it just comes down to lack of experience/practice. I'm seriously considering buying a machine (Thunderbolt 210) to practice with and to have on hand for a couple things I want t...

Those guys definitely play hard ball. Once upon a time I worked at a LWS and would try to soften the hit on little guy/one man operations. There's a good bit of room to move on those prices if you find someone who is willing to work with you a little.

Heck, maybe tomorrow the machine will magically start working again  I know that tech support doesn't recommend it, but have you tried smacking it? :D That is my default maneuver. I don't mean to come off as coarse. It sounds like you've got a good thing going and hope this works out for you.

I look at duty cycle. It says 40%. Thats light/med. duty. If you look at real commercial duty machines, they rate at 100%.

Re: If your newest favorite welder let you down.........
Just my opinion- You can't just run a business on a hobbyist/light duty grade machine. I know people love them for what they are, and they are super cool for a home owner, but they just aren't up to snuff for commercial duty.
That being said, sorry to hear that it happened.

I think this has taught me mostly that it could be good to have some inexpensive exhaust system to pull the fumes away, or in the worst case I will just use a small fan to blow the fumes away from me. Alan Yeah, ventilation is a very good idea regardless of what you're welding. Aside from the chrom...

I guess its coiling and bends in the line, but I've always noticed with longer gun lines that as you move around and flip the line around with you, the stick out changes.

Re: Wriggly wire !
I think so.Flux core is a tube and does crush/pinch more easily than solid wire. We used to have a heck of a time pushing even 1/16th fcaw-g through a 15 foot gun line with a 2 wheel drive system. It would get poppy and erratic, burn back and stick in the tip, etc. 12 ft. it would run like a champ t...

Its also probably a good idea to skip the ABC 123 stuff that they recommend and just use wire feed speed and voltage recommended for the consumable (wire) that you are using. It takes a little doing, but its well worth it to know the actual operating parameters that your machine is functioning at pe...

Those small nozzles are sweet. Used them on a pipeworx system a while back for getting into the root really nicely.
They do need cleaned frequently though.

Re: Hard wire mig or Dual Shield ?
I've used fcaw-g a ton and it is a great process. Once you're dialed in for the welds you're doing its as clean, smooth, and durable as anything can be. I've used Select-Arc to make thousands of feet of weld on rusty acid poached coal barge hoppers. Lincoln was a tad finicky on that type of stuff, b...

I'm with cj. Don't do that for my sake. I don't need big welds on 1/8th inch steel.
On that subject, typically a weld only needs to be the size of the thinner metal.

Makes me wonder if using my shop-vac would be an option, provided I have enough hose. I've thought about doing that before. Having a switch by the end of the nozzle would be great too. Realistically though, I just use a fan to draw the fumes like Poland suggested. Noise kind of gets on my nerves an...
