Re: MillerMatic feeding issues

I would still try powering up the motor as they can die leaving a short circuit that blows the board so fitting a new board will not help - but it sounds like a board issue - worth removing & visually checking -( some have tiny hard to spot glass fuses as well as a main fuse ) they are not super...

Re: flux core vs mig

I have a transformer based Mig with 7step voltage that I bought new when 18 years old - now I'm well into my 50's and it still works the same as it always has - also got a transformer air cooled ac stick welder bought new aged 12 still working - I don't see anything wrong with them ( also got some 2...

Re: MillerMatic feeding issues

Try to get to the 2 wires taking power to the wire drive motor & confirm if you have voltage when the trigger is pulled -if there is it's a bad motor which has brushes so could be as simple as new brushes - you can test the motor by connecting a 12volt car battery to it - they are typically a 24...

Re: Newb Welder Question on Wire Welding Square Tubing

That thickness is hard to weld even if experienced with the gear your using so no disrespect on your first try - I have helped several people who have similar if not the same welder bought from a supermarket / big box store & they mostly had the same problem - the wire speed will not go low enou...

In principal yes I agree - ( unless working for Nasa maybe ! ) but if your at a stage where you are routinely removing giant blobs of filler metal especially aluminum from your tungsten try to keep one wheel for removing contamination & another for finishing as you can quickly load wheels up to ...

Re: Which Metal Cutoff Wheel is Best? Let's find out!

Most standard saws tend to have rather high RPM for metal unless you can find the real old model ( can't recall number ) with the worm drive but I not seen one about in a long time - think they long since vanished due to the double insulation safety Nazis ! the diamond blades do have a niche use - t...

Re: oxy propane regulator problem- no gas flowing

Not only are the flash back arrestors directional - the hoses are in so far as they have " hose check " valves fitted ( in the UK @ least )to the torch end - if you try the pipes the other way round ( threads are the same both ends ) no gas will flow - visually never seen direction arrows ...

Re: How to get a wider weld?

Welcome to the forum Johnny449. Plenty of folks should chime in on this as many members weld a lot of aluminum once they catch up ( I rarely do so limited experience ! ) I would say if you have limited or no experience your on the right track & have some beads that look OK - in answer to your qu...

Needle guns are'nt that bad - I don't hear too well either but it has something to do with my younger days when I was the go to guy for removing wartime concrete structures & tree stumps etc for farmers ! nice one on the exempt jury service though .

Re: Ar me hearties

Given the inability to get the crap off the inside or purge it looks a good job - I've had a few of these on boats & they are often kinda eaten / corroded / suffering a form of electrolytic damage & just won't weld - I often braze them of choice believing that it is slightly more forgiving i...

Re: How to drill a 1.5" diameter hole

All solid advice - I often have used hole saws up to 4" on site where I had nothing else - my 2 cents is I do the solid mandrel thing & it works well - if you are free hand drilling rather than pillar drill I would clamp the piece down on something solid like 2" so the mandrel has a go...

Re: small stainless repair

@ Alan. Thanks for the clarification - the process I and others are replicating is virtually instant so not quite the same thing - for anyone interested the one I saw a video of is marketed by " Tig Brush " - I agree that a 12volt supply is ample for long term electrolysis by submersion of...

Re: Gernerwelderbeater 130 project

Glad it's all coming together for you - volts sound about right - they are rarely that precise on those machines - even when new I think they all got stamped with a number from a singular test model - not specific to that unit on test at build - when you say timing set past TDC you do mean before TD...

Re: small stainless repair

Your saying borax mixed as a paste / solution will passivate stainless ? never heard of it or tried it. As to 12 volts DC I don't think from my experience it's very effective or fast unless your using a very strong acid solution which kinda defeats the point of using electrolysis- normally initial c...

Re: Gernerwelderbeater 130 project

Assuming it's a conventional generator & the AC is being produced by a 2 pole alternator I think it's safe to assume the governor RPM's is off by the difference in frequency of 42 > 60 so proportionately the volts will be down a similar amount as this unit looks too old to run an AVR - so a chea...

Re: small stainless repair

No worries ! I've never seen a real one except in a video so I can only tell you what I improvised which seems to work OK - for the life of me I don't see where they get the price for a commercial one. I rather think you can use a small amount of any acid available to make the solution conductive as...

Sorry Mick - I don't have any pictures or any way to take them - I never went digital - only 35mm film ! I've used several power sources - I had always believed the commercial ones use around 25 > 30 volts & around 20 > 30 amps but could be mistaken - AC has a more aggressive cleaning action but...
