Hmmm... in theory, a guy could send an addressed, stamped card to any US postmaster, with a note asking him to drop it in the outgoing mail. Right? That could accomplish the McMurdo Station post mark.

Re: Converting oxygen regulator for tig use

To make this conversion you'd have to swap out the inlet nipple nut from CGA 540 (oxygen) to CGA 580 (inert). Apparatus repair places use a kind of nut to lock the nipple and nut together, and then get a wrench on the hex side of the tool to un-thread the nipple from the regulator body. Then lock th...

Started working last night on a 16 inch 300# steam main under ground. There still digging up pipe trying to find the leak. It has an insulation case and a welded 24inch jacket. If they can't find the leak visually then there going to bring in a smart pig. It's a robot that can ultrasound the pipe f...

Re: Which stick, Which process? Arena Drag refit

Welcome to the forum, Ray! 6010 electrodes don't run well on an inverter welder unless the machine is designed to accommodate them. It's a good idea to practice up on your stick technique. Coldman's post on rod choice is spot on. As a rule of thumb set machine amperage to decimal rod size x 1000. So...

Re: Welding Tips & Tricks Podcast

A thought on the "first job is free" strategy: make sure you put the invoice into the hand of the decision maker, and make sure you explain to that decision maker right then and there why he's getting the credit. If you don't, or if you leave it for them or mail it in, the invoice may get ...

Re: Chinese model tig welders

One way to approach buying an off shore brand is to buy through Home Depot. They carry AHP and Everlast, for instance, and you may be able to avoid shipping charges with the "ship to store for free" option. If the machine is DOA (it happens, with both foreign and domedtic makes) within 30 ...

Ok, sounds like your machine needs a potentiometer.

If you'll google "2.2k potentiometer" you can view images to see which one is closest to the one you remember- there are several with holes.

Good luck- let us know how it goes!

Re: Mini-Weld 130

Agreed, an inverter with DC output based on the marks on the electrical plate.

How did you come to have it, and does it have cables with fittings to weld? One will be a ground clamp and the other holds the electrode.

I've been fortunate in that I've had a window in the laundry room to run an extension cord outside, forgot that might not be the case for everyone.

Re: New to aluminum welding. Need help

25 cfh argon is high, isn't it? i recall reading that too high a flow rate can draw in ambient atmosphere and contaminate the weld. The Miller weld calculator can provide the proper flow rate.

Also, some flow meters are graduated in liters per minute, rather than cubic ft per hour.
