Re: Small welding table...

Oh, I didn't realize you have both. Did they make special tabs for the bottom structure to extend through both layers of the top? You need to read my past posts on this. :D Ok, I will dig that up...this little table I made is working out good for me so far, but I want to get a Certiflat eventually,...

Re: If your newest favorite welder let you down.........

My LWS is Scott Gross. I am pretty much done with them. Unfortunately, my only other option is Radnor(AirGas). I turned a torch into them for rebuild and they lost it. But their hazmat fee is $5. So what do ya do? My $0.02...just buy your gas from them, buy your consumables online. Don't cut your n...

Re: Hi everybody! Advice?

Why not enroll in a community college welding class first? Why spend the money when they will most likely teach you how to get started, and you can look at other stuff later. It is something you need to figure out for yourself, but I would exhaust local community colleges before vocational training,...

Re: Goliath CNC knee mill

I'm not a fan of RPC. I'm not either, but it's not a bad solution if you have a bunch of different machines. I have a couple VFDs, but they're not too cheap when you start getting into larger ones that will run 5HP-7.5HP machines. My lathe is probably the most demanding machine I have, with a 5HP m...

Re: Small welding table...

I didn't want to sound like Certiflat tables are bad. My table, now that I have used it, and flattened it, using all my different home-made clamps, is one of the top tools I've have ever bought. I now can clamp my work to my new table that I've never been able to do. Everyday, I'm amazed how precis...

Re: If your newest favorite welder let you down.........

I ordered a 10lbs can of Lincoln Excalibur and got a $10 Hazardous surcharge on top of paying for the rod. Its highway robbery! Hazardous surcharge is for gas, so I thought...Lincoln Excalibur is in a sealed tube... :? I don't get charged by my LWS for electrodes, but do for gas. Only $5, in one of...

Re: Hi everybody! Advice?

Welcome to the forums. You should have a herd of folks telling you how to spend $5k anytime now...there's no shortage of advice on spending money. :D My less than professional advice, get a good used machine, if you can find a Miller Dynasty 280 DX in the $3k-$4k range, that would be all you need fo...

Re: Small welding table...

They did say it was a defect. That's why they gave me the 1/4" top at cost. BTW... They are great people to deal with. All that said, I still think they provide a pretty good value for what they offer. I see you have the ProTable also, don't those come with 3/16" normally? I didn't know t...

Re: Help, Running 220 to Garage From Sub-box Possible?

That is not necessarily true. Many modern inverter based welding machines run off a 30 amp 240/220v circuit This is true, I am running my inverter off a 30 amp circuit, and a number of machine do run on 30 amps, some less, but 30 amps seems like the minimum for a 200 amp inverter. The cable/plug ar...

Re: Help, Running 220 to Garage From Sub-box Possible?

So your question about "will my sub panel" feed my garage is Yes, and No. Its not whether 220v is available, its whether there is sufficient available Amperage available. All the shop tools you described probably use 30-60 Amp breakers. If your sub panel is rated for 50-100 amps only, the...

Re: Small welding table...

The u bolts you are referring to makes the top strait when clamped to the stiffeners provided. My top bowed their stiffeners! td, From what I've read that is a defect if so. Seems that once you weld the top to the stiffeners it should stay flat. They didn't say that was a defect if the top bowed th...

Go with the mag base. Yeah, the more I think about it the better it is...I might have a an old Crapsman, I have 2 or 3 Nogas, but I think i have another older style with just pivot rods. I just need to adapt something with 3/8" pin. Have you ever thought of finding someone who has a water jet ...

Re: Small welding table...

Ok, I should update this thread. My LWS gave me some Harris Super MissleWeld...I used it to weld Chrome nuts to mild steel angle iron. That got me the casters, then looking at it I decided to put a cross member from the front to back. I intentionally left the sides open, that way I could put my weld...

these were all done with your technique of “Jam on the peddle, feed rod, move, wait, jam on peddle, feed rod, move, wait...etc?? Sorry, pedal.[WINKING FACE] I understood. ;) I'm going to give that method a try for a welding cart I am going to build. As you jam on the pedal, I'm guessing you watch the ...

Re: Whats purpose of the Spark Gap

does anyone have a clue what the spark gap does.... Just adjusted it on my Everlast power TIG 200.. it was .038 and adjusted it to .030.. Made the arc steady on the min setting of 20 amps.. At the original setting the arc was cutting out, sounded like I was losing the ground clamp connection. Rich,...

Dynasty. Never look back. This ^^^^ I am limited on budget right now, and I bought an Everlast DC tig/stick machine (i-Tig 201), but if I could afford it I would definitely get the Dynasty. I hope to get a Dynasty someday and in fact this Everlast is most likely just a stop gap. The Millers just se...

Ok, I'm sure that was way overkill, but how many times in your life do you get to say you welded your nuts with super missionweld ? Learned a couple interesting pieces of information. I saw that Chrome nuts are twice the price of Stainless. That makes sense as Chrome Moly is much more durable,...

Thanks for the link, I like a fine writing instrument, especially at that price You can get them on ebay or Amazon in packs of 10 for even less, like $1-$2/each when you buy in packs of 10. :) You can still buy the Fishers, but they are like $15-$20/each the last I checked. Advanced technology strikes! At the beginning of the space race, an old story was NASA spent $$ on developing a pen that would write in the absence of gravity, while the Russians simply used a pencil. I love those Fisher Space Pens! Oddly, took me quite a while to find a similar substitute, which I...

I recently bought a pair of solid tires from HF I hate to admit, I despise going in that place...but it said they were steel hub and 1100 lbs. each...when I got there I looked at them and the entire hub was plastic, there's a small steel bushing in the center to act kind of like a bearing. I decided...

Re: Stick welding stainless nut to A36 angle iron

Just kidding. I have heard it's a good product also. The reason I even mentioned I possibly shouldn't mention it on a welding forum is that it is kind of a controversial topic, but it is pretty darn useful and I know a lot of XLNT machinists that use it. It is really good to be used as a filler, li...
