Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
My hasty "make sure the new machine can weld at 210 amps on AC and 5 on DC" tests. Did a poor job cleaning the aluminum which was also junk from coexisting with steel scrap for a few months. For almost an inch there (all together) it doesnt look too bad.

Re: scotch briteing tungsten?
I'm not exactly new to welding. I completed the 100 level course (OA and stick) at my local CC a couple decades ago. Lately I have been wanting to improve my welding. I'm watching pretty much all of Jody's vids so I'm picking up some good tips. My aluminum problems were mostly because I have poor te...

Re: scotch briteing tungsten?
When I get home I will post some pics, yeah the material was really bad. Some 1/4" 6063 that was in the steel scrap for a long time, then I cleaned it with aluminum oxide sandpaper. All by the book right? At least the part that says "don't do this". I was very anxious to run the dynas...

Re: Miller Dynasty 210 DX
The Dynasty is probably excessive for a hobbyist or occasional use. But I think the Dynasty is good value to a person who relies on it to make a living. As for excessive for hobby use, nonsense! I hope to one day own a 280dx for hobbyist use! Need/want pretty much the same thing. Or at least ...

Re: scotch briteing tungsten?
If your getting a bunch or contamination on the tungsten it is best to snap or cut it off and regrind. If you use a grinder or grinding wheel and grind off the blob you are just impregnating the stone which in turn will put it back on your tungsten when you sharpen snapping off is what I have been ...

Re: scotch briteing tungsten?
Do you think it would make a difference if the abrasive was used in a axial vs rotational method. i.e. if the scratch lines go around the tungsten will it cause problems like if you ground it that way, or are the scratches so fine it won't matter? Or am I the only one that gets crap all up his tungs...

Re: Wave forms
I tried the triangle wave form for the ever important "soda" can welding thinking the decreased penetration would help buy me some time before the can goes liquid while I practice. I did have a really hard time getting the arc where I wanted it even at 450 hz with .04 lanthanted. Maybe I'l...

scotch briteing tungsten?
Is it okay to clean soot off a tungsten with scotchbrite? I swear I saw Jody do this in a video. Say if you did not set enough postflow and the tungsten lost it's silver.

Dynasty 210DX editorial
Intro rant . Just so you know, I have not been the biggest fan of Miller ever since ITW bought them out. The fact that they moved manufacture of their products out of the country doesn't bother me as much as the result it seems to have had on design and fit/finish. I feel this is the most evident w...

Re: Welding Tips & Tricks Podcast
If you are seriously asking (hard to tell on the internet) It's basically a radio show that you can download and listen to. You can listen to it on your pc. In this case the format is kinda like 3-4 guys sitting around having coffee and talking shop.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Yep . The only problem I have found with a mil is that once you have one, you want a bigger one ...and a lathe too $$$ ain't that the truth! My rule on that: Give a person a tool, they can finish a project. Give that same person a reasonably equipped shop and they will forever be one tool/machine a...

Ace, nice setup. Once you have used a speed handle on a mill vise, it's pretty had to imaging not having one huh? I share your opinion of Matt. Got my 1440 lathe from him and am very happy with his machine and service.

Re: Lincoln Square Wave 200
To do what? At work Mig unless the part needs some special attention.
At home, tig is my first choice since it makes less smoke and sparks. Mig welding in shorts is not a great idea, but fine when tigging (at least the parts I do).

Re: Tungsten Brand???
My LWS is somewhere in the middle. They carry pure, thoriated and Ceriated tungsten. Lanthanated has to be ordered. I would think that LWSs sell most of their products to large companies who use purchasing agents. When the big company is out of the item they always use, purchasing orders more of the...

Re: Safely transport Oxygen and Argon with a truck
I copied my father in law and screwed (4) 2x2 boards together to lay the tanks on so they don't roll. When not in use it collapses. I run a ratchet strap over the tank to my tiedown points to keep it from sliding. As stated earlier, laying down bottles is not an issue, except acetylene. Capture.PNG

While I don't feel like the aesthetic quality of my welds are good enough to call myself a welder, I do get paid to join metal with welding machines.

Re: Miller Dynasty 210 DX
I will be able to do so soon. Just finishing the shopping list with my LWS. I am not a Miller (post ITW) fan. I would rather get the Lincoln Aspect 375, but the amp draw is too high for the circuit I have available and the 200 square wave is too basic for what I want. This will be replacing my 5yr o...
