Re: How to drill a 1.5" diameter hole

Glad it worked out for you - I never tried cutting with 6010 though have often used gouging rods in similar circumstances - as Burt Gummer once said " just doing the best I can with what I got " ( or something like that ! ) - naturally if it was Burt & he only needed a 2-1/2" hole...

Re: New to welding, just looking for some advice

Don't want to cause a stir but recently I did find 0.6mm ( .024" ) flux core wire - never bought any or tried it but I have seen it - usually over here it's always been 0.9mm ( .035" ) for the cheapo gasless welders but this place kept 0.6 / 0.8 / 0.9 & 1mm.

I always believed it's not possible using conventional welding - it can be explosive welded ( not redneck with tanerite though ! ) the big question is why would anyone want to snot a Lansky knife honing jig the wrong way up to a vice ?

Re: BENDING 2" FLAT BAR 5mm

If you require a slow curve over the entire length on edge the reliable method is make a simple roller bender - there are many on You Tube with good build instructions - if you can get away with a series of bends with flats between it's easy to cut part way through the 2" with a slitting disc a...

Re: 31 yr old Cummins exhaust manifold

Welcome to the forum Olywelder I've had very little joy with Tig brazing unless everything was " surgically " clean which clearly your manifold won't be ! when chasing manifold cracks I generally sand blast the area then V out the cracks with a carbide burr - also use the burr to clean out...

Re: mig gas and how long is a piece of string?

How much gas you use is effected by a few things including gas shroud size / amps used / weld size / weld position ( fillets take less than open corner etc ) if your indoors with absolutely no draft or trying to weld outside - the list goes on but I'd say you wont get away with less than 25 CFH - yo...

Re: MIG IS EASY ? compared to what ? crucifiction?

Sorry to hear it's not going well but Mig is easy - you just need someone that can weld to set the machine up - then it's like caulking with metal ! - as it's a new machine I guess we can't rule out it's faulty but I doubt it - first thoughts are how are you sticking a contact tip to the work ? flux...

Re: AHP Pedal...the Kiss of Death?

I don't really think the pedal has much part to play in sticking your tungsten or how shiny the puddle is - I have an early generation AHP with the retarded Chinese toe pedal thing - I hated chasing it around the floor ( but I hate using any pedal except for very thin material especially aluminum ) ...

Welcome to the Forum bajafatboy. I don't see much wrong with those welds so if your fairly new to welding congrats you have it pretty well sorted - without knowing your machine I don't know what those settings give in volts or wire speed so can't comment on suitability but the welds don't appear col...

Re: Not again - more dirty deeds

Ah - more quality boat work - seems like a theme starting here ! my 2cents - don't try to weld it unless you just pile on spool gun poop & shape it back - Tig is just going to boil & spit till there is nothing left - if it were me I'd make a copper " dam " around the outside shape ...

Re: Fcaw-g vs fcaw-s vs smaw

That is indeed an interesting & unusual project - if 7024 is what is generically referred to as an " iron powder rod " over here you are still low on amps for any of the rods I've used over the years - nice rod on large welds or cap runs but not my choice especially if you can't roll t...

Re: Fcaw-g vs fcaw-s vs smaw

I agree with Mike - that welder seems kinda small to attempt that thickness - most fab shops doing 1/2" would be running 350's as a minimum - I run a 500 but never max it out - it's just about duty cycle - if your limited on amps then stick is the best option in my opinion - especially if your ...

Smoking hot air cooled torch will usually only hurt the O ring on the back cap / the end of the power lead inside the handle where it's crimped & the collets deform & bulge restricting the gas - all of these should be relatively easy to spot by eye & change - hopefully it's something che...

Welcome to the forum Juliano-R. Yes you should have both - the check valves on the torch really only prevent intermixing of gasses due to large pressure differentials & help prevent hose damage due to high pressure shocks caused by a flash back - the flash back arrestors prevent a flame travelin...
