New foot pedal

So, can you tell which one is made in China and which one is made in Germany? Yeah I know. I know some say whats the point, does the same thing blah blah blah. But I can tell you which is much nicer to use. Heel rest keeps your foot in place and the general weight of the thing means it doesn't slide...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Melting down rods into less useful blobs on some 1/8 Screwing around with settings on a new machine. Runs quite a bit differently than the last one. Top left was actually the first one. Not sure why it was sooty, didn't dip. Probably should have cleaned the plate first. I also managed to impale my t...

Re: Question On Aluminum Mig???

Mig is reverse polarity. So electrode positive. That's the same polarity that cleans oxides off on tig welds. I'll take a stab at why its done in spray transfer. Only because I made a mess of some aluminium when I tried out a mig ages ago. It was because it was in short circuit, voltage too low and ...

Re: Brass to Bronze repair

Well I was gonna say BOC but its cheaper at the shit store that shall not be named. And I am a plumber. But I don't braze anymore unless I really have to, I use a hydraulic press and crimp them. Most plumbers are cheapskates for some reason and use 2%. Thats the min required. I like 5% because it fl...

Re: Brass to Bronze repair

Thanks. I have two thoughts. First is the most obvious not enough heat in the joint. Bloody fridgy that had ago probably only had a number 12 or 15 metric tip. I'll get into it with a rosebud or a number 20 tip if that's the case. Second thought is that its not brass but some kind if aluminium bron...

Re: Brass to Bronze repair

https://www.bunnings.com.au/consolidated-alloys-250g-silver-brazing-flux_p5060150 Grab that and a few rods of 5%, much cheaper. I think the silver mostly adds ductility but I doubt you really need that. But it needs to be fairly clean, not necessarily tig clean but definitely no grease. Solvent or a...

Re: Brass to Bronze repair

Should wet straight into the brass at least. Dunno about the bronze but shouldn't be too different. Looks way too cold to me if you can build it up like that. Should wet in and capillary attraction will draw it into the joint. Oxy and silver solder would be a braze. Maybe bronze welding would be a b...

Re: Holy. Crap.

It's cool, I'd buy it if I needed one and wanted to spend in that price range. Interesting programming options too. I picked up a similar VRD inverter unit to this without the 6010 function for a few hundred bucks on ebay a few years ago. Was parted out from an auction lot that came from a mining m...

Re: Holy. Crap.

Pushing DC long distances would require bumping up the voltage unfortunately. Other option is lower resistance i.e thicker cables. This has a VRD i'm pretty sure, so it drops the open circuit voltage to under probably 20 or 30 volts. May be able to weld at lower voltages too. Lower voltage and you c...

Channel sponsor. Nice Well done to him to get them on board. Its a $1200 inverter stick welder, yes tig too but lift tig and most of those little welders can get set up that way. A long way off the usual stuff he has on there. I think he just needs to bump up the research/info bit on his videos and ...

Re: For you machinists...

Most people see Einstein through a mythology. He was not a super-genius like the characters on "The Big Bang Theory" or "Scorpion". There are similar I.Q.s to his here on this forum. I think he was in the 140's, which is still considered "genius" on that bell curve. Hi...

Re: My winding road into TIG welding

Man, I'm so jealous. I want that table !!!! I'm planning on a Demmeler table one of these days. I'm applying to rebuild the workshop so can't do much till that gets built. But I build 2/3's of my current table to take a 8x4 piece of MDF with a grid of CNC'd holes in it. I stole the idea off a Festoo...

Re: cutting 5" aluminum pipe [mast]

Yeah I saw it then couldn't find it when I reread. Its in the thread title Ï thought the pipe insert would take strain off the join especially if long enough but I guess you'd still have tension and compression constantly fighting either side of the weld every time wind blows. And its probably desig...

Ahhh yeah. I think you mentioned they had a lot of the settings locked out in another thread.

Arse covering in full compliance with Australian Standards :D

Suppose it depends on the field, automotive/military/medical etc. I guess they need some compliance to a standardized process or something.

I didn't recognize the hardware, especially the collet. And all my torches/spares are for CK 20 and 26. I'll have a play around and see what I can get to fit what. Re: Beer Keg Casting Furnace

After a bit of research it seems a blanket and coating i.e. kaowool and itc-100 seem to be the most efficient fuel wise. Not to mention easier to make and a whole lot light than a 2" thick layer of refractory cement.
