Re: Explanation/Info on Carbide Saws!i

I've used one of these quite a bit for steel. Excellent cut quality and durability, but a little beyond a hobby type machine. http://www.scotchman.com/cold-saws/ And a really nice Wegoma chop saw for aluminum that I can't even find any info on anymore. Is it for garage/home shop or industrial? Or in...

Re: Mig Help - No Sizzle

Looks good. I don't worry about sound much unless its some ungodly popping or stuttering.

The welds have good wet toes, shiny, well sized and minimal spatter. Thats about as good as it gets without some non-destructive testing.

No kidding?

How much time do you have on it? I got the impression working in a welder repair shop that Millers were notoriously sturdy and well built.

Would you say that may not be the case with this model?

Don't forget about time.

Generally no, at least not without some communication between the project managers from both sides. It could actually be fine for that purpose, but without communication between project managers, it could cause some serious problems beyond my pay grade. Fcaw is fine for tacking and fit up too, it ca...

Nah, no peeking.

A trick I learned for fixed shade helmets is to find your mark and set the rod a little to its side so that it sits on the flux and doesn't strike, then put the hood down, pivot the rod up and strike.

The stuff would melt and spatter all over us and we'd come out of them smelling like fried bacon. Yikes. Tough day to be halal. Any Muslims on the crew that day? Nah. We had one Jewish guy but he wasn't very devout. That stuff leaking into and blowing up your weld pool overhead would put you in tou...

I never really got the bacon frying analogy. To me it sounds like either good or bad welding. You obviously missed the day in school where they thighs the most important lesson: everything is better with bacon on it! Even your welds :D I'm going to have to start using strips of it as heat sink/anti...

Probably. The first inch of a typical test plate gets cut off and tossed. The second inch is the one that gets bend tested. The middle two are kept as proof. The 5th inch is also a bend piece or back up, depending on if they are doing 2 bends (root/face, etc.) and the top inch is also discarded. If ...

Re: Please talk about 'Inductance" and "run-in"

I look at the inductance setting for mig as a fine tune for the amperage on the V/A curve. So for a given voltge, it can run slightly different current, up or down. It has been said that stainless runs better with higher inductance, so on a machine with no adjustment the solution is to run the wire ...

Help codes on manual page 28.

If the codes are right and it can be solved using different power input then maybe it's worth a shot.

Repairs can be prohibitively expensive and I know nothing about availability overseas.

I've done a few of those with the expander. We were warned very clearly before hand about over running/cracking them and what a pain it is to tear them out and do over. Then they got a tig root and mig cover. Do you suppose that is what may have contributed to the failure, or are these just a matter...

Re: Amps showing up on display while welding

Turn your hand back and forth while holding the stinger, don't wave your wrist like a windshield wiper. Lift your whole wrist/arm up as you move through the weld to keep your stick angle good and prevent reaching with the electrode. That will help avoid long arcing and porosity. And yeah, those gold...

Re: Amps showing up on display while welding

A little rough, actually. I'd drop any thoughts of manipulations or swirling, and focus on arc placement. Point the electrode at the base metal about the thickness of the electrode above the previously deposited weld, pause for a moment, then move quickly across the weld to the other side to deposit...

Re: Amps showing up on display while welding

"I think " means "I have noticed that, but I am not so sure" In my opinion, penetration and its importance is vastly overstated in welding, especially at the amateur level. The mixture ratio for filler metal to base is ideally a 70/30 mix. Therefore on a 1/8 inch weld, the penet...

Well so the arc force regulation , when there is one, , is possibly the "fine setting" ? WIth zero arc force I noticed a very buttery arc, not so unpleasant but I did put arc force back trying 10 20 30 until I find a strenght that suits my need Mixing that regulation and amps is more diff...
