Re: Mild Steel

I'd have to agree with arc length. Probably the first year I was welding I held too long an arc. Once I learned to bury the rod in there and hold that real real tight arc things improved alot.

Re: Mild Steel

If you want to get better with 6010/11 than you start running a pad of beads ala jodie's video. Learn to run a consistant bead with the rod. Than you run a t-joint and get that figured out. than you go to open-butt(which is what the rod is bad for) joints. Flat, horizontal, vertical. Than you go to ...

Don't forget to check the pawn shops, name brand portabands show up regularly around here in the $100-$200 range. My buddy got a nice porter cable one at a pawn shop for 100 bucks. Problem with pawn shops is you never know what they have, you might have to go to one for weeks at a time before the i...

I can't believe not a single one of you commented on the fact that Antorcha said he was banging someone else's old lady lol. hot enough to hold a real tight arc without sticking, and hot enough to melt both pieces of metal together into one cohesive piece of steel.

3200 is a good deal if it has low hours on it. I've seen a bunch for the low 1k range but most of em are high hours and need a tune up or parts.

Did they make those in diesal back then? Diesal engines last forever that would be the steal of the year easy.

Re: Question about removing magnetism from pipe before weldi

Is it possible to run on AC current? Thats an old trick to negate the effects of magnetization. Also, be sure you put your ground as close as reasonably possible to the joint your welding.

Always thought it had to do with piping being used to convey a fluid And tubing usually being used for structural purposes

Re: Dumb Question

Pipe is rated by inside diameter while tubing is rated by outside diameter. Pipe goes by schedule, tubing by standard, heavy, x heavy etc... 6" pipe is actually 6-5/8" od. 6" tube is 6" od.

I convinced this 1972 SA200 to follow me home. Bought it from an 80yr old retired highway heavy former welder, who purchased it in 1974 and used it very little, I am pretty excited to add it to my collection of welders, and after this summer I am hoping to break out on my own with a well equipped r...

Well think of it this way. A milwaukee portaband is 400 bucks. A harbor freight one is 89. You can buy almost 5 HF saws for 1 milwaukee.

My knock on Wyatt is you call yourself "Mr. Tig". I watched a couple videos thinkings this guy was gonna show me some good stuff like Jody would. I was sorely disappointed. Don't call yourself Mr. Tig like you invented the process and are the best tig welder in the world. Other than that, ...

How thick of material are you referring to. It's to bad I'm not still on the rail I could have made a vid about straightening some big material. I was doing some 3/16" plate, nothing too serious. But the same problems would apply to thicker stuff, just the thicker stuff you probably wouldn't b...

Re: Value for Miller Econo Twin

Is that one of the 120/240 machines? What part of the world are you in? Value changes depending on parts of the country/world, because usually the cost of shipping a welding machine will basically push up the cost to buying a new one. If its the machine I think it is around here they go for 800-1000...

Theres nothing wrong with mig at all, if it's done properly. Theres just ALOT of people that pull the trigger and spit out a decent looking bead and think their welding. But when you hit it with a hammer it breaks apart faster than cold 6013.

Oh baby I got a list- 1)Tacked a couple pieces of my bottle cart together. 2)Straightened out the flat piece of plate I had butt welded together and that distorted terribly as it cooled. Heated it up to 400 degrees in the BBQ and beat the crap outta it with a 3-1/2 lb cross peen hammer. 3)Went to 5 ...
