Re: MIG welder feed issues

Never used to be like that. Any idea what has gotten weak or worn out that would cause it? I ran into something similar with .035 FCAW-G, jerky and sometimes burnback. Feed worked fine, blew out the liner, tip not plugged and still did it when welding after some use. Put in new tip and worked fine ...

Re: Bending again

You know, I considered that. Drilling right through both walls of the tubing. I thought it would be more time consuming but considering the time I'm spending to straighten out my 20' boomerang, I'm probably wrong about that... Only other thing I do is grind a bit of corner off the pin on the backsi...

Re: Bending again

I have built several similar style racks like this only on a much smaller scale (mig not O/A) and I drill right thru the tubing, insert the pins to flush on the backside and a small tack on each side is all it takes. Minimal heat and distortion and plenty strong.

Re: Garage heater

Nice, what does your insurance people have to say about a wood burner in the garage. The municipality I live in won't allow homemade wood burners in a garage and my insurance won't cover them either. Probably want to regulate that draft also. Depends where you're at. 4 years ago I had my homemade s...

Re: Welding Parts Under Pressure to Prevent Warp?

I have straightened tubing that arched due to welding on one side by running short hot beads on the opposite side. Run a short hot bead or 2 and let it cool to see what you've got. Repeat if needed. Grind off the welds after. I don't have a torch either!

Re: Weld to plate laying on concrete - bad idea?

Usually in a situation like this you would drill and epoxy the anchor studs, and pre weld the verticals to the base plates and double nut the plates, one below and one on top. That way you can adjust the verticals to plumb with the double nuts and raise the plate as needed for drainage. then pack in...

Hey guys, new here. I have to cut off the piece of the trailer where the hitch connects to, then weld a plate which allows for adjustable height, I will have to weld vertical uphill with 0.35 wire with a Lincoln Electric PowerMig 256. Re: Newb Welder Question on Wire Welding Square Tubing

One thing that might help is drill a small hole,1/4 " or a bit smaller a bit past the miter on each corner piece. slide a piece of 1/8 flat that will fit width of the tube inside and clamp it tight up against the hole. leave it sticking out no further than will allow the other corner piece to s...

Re: What kind of drill bit will drill through an Allen head

Has anyone every used stick rods made just for extracting studs? I keep seeing them at my WS wonder if they actually work. According to the label you stick it straight down into the hole, it welds onto the broken stud or tap, the flux coats and protects the threads of the hole and you weld a nut to...

Re: Dry Saw Blade Recommendations?

The Evolution 380 comes supplied with a jig that slides over the outer movable vise jaw that allows you to clamp square tubing rotated on a 45% angle so the blade isn't cutting on the flat at all. Cuts much easier and extends the life. I also have a Rage 3 10in sliding compound saw that works not b...

Re: Finishing up my Hitch/Trailer project

In a long gone repair garage in town there was a safety poster of a once white, dirt smudged shop ceiling with a clear, man shaped, smudged imprint with a large brown stain and split rim arc marks around the head area. Don't know if it was authentic or a dramatization but I do know everyone stayed w...

Re: What is recommended CFM for fume extraction?

It's not a house. It's a metal shop, 30' L x 18' W x 15' H. The welding bench is at one end of the shop, and we're going to vent the fan to the outside. Venting is necessary to pass inspection. I'm still struggling to find a number SOMEWHERE that says - for MIG welding, you need a minimum of X cfm ...

Re: What is recommended CFM for fume extraction?

My main shop area is 30' X 36" X 15'6" high. At one end I have a 12" and a 20" 3 blade regular barn fan mounted fairly high on the wall. At the other end are 2 inlet ducts 14" X 25" bringing air down from the attic to 6' high from the floor. On Amazon the 12" fan i...

as far as I know, all of the cfm talk is only talk. I thought the way we were told, the darn thing would be sucking the pots ...

Re: What is recommended CFM for fume extraction?

Re: What is recommended CFM for fume extraction? Do you have a tight house? What goes out has to come in from somewhere. To get maximum efficiency from a fan there must be an adequate inlet air supply from somewhere. The "747" is just the poor fan working its butt off with no air to feed ...

Thank you all for comments. I have used the antispatter sprays in the past but for me it's kind of like "Henerys" roof patch, I get that stuff Everywhere! I'll try the heat from the underside and for sure use a cup grinder when cleaning up for the day. The anti spatter I use from TSC (Can...

Re: Welding table Flatness

Is it not flat from grinding material off over time or distorted downwards from the heat of welding on top over time? If it's from heat is it possible to put heat to the bottom side to distort it back up to flat? Similar to straightening a tubing that has been welded on one side and crowned a bit an...

Re: Stressed welds

I used straight Flux Core for years with no problems. Tried hard wire mig on some various test welds and then cut and etched. Quite an eye opener how a pretty looking weld can be just laying on top. Pretty crappy quality control wherever that machine was made. Hope they don't build trailer hitches a...

I threw away my spring ground clamps long ago and only use the Magswitch grounds on everything. Make a handle from a piece of 1/8X 1"X5" flat bolted to the lug and 2nd bolt for the ground cable end and tape it up. Just grab the handle to flip it anywhere. The ones with cooling fins have a ...

Re: Dry Saw Blade Recommendations?

My experience with a dry cut saw ( Evolution 380 with the stock 66 tooth X 14in blade) is they work very well cutting regular stock material but don't like to cut wider material on the flat. I dulled a blade real quick cutting a miter on 1/2 X 4in flat. The blade drops straight down and must get too...
