Re: What electrodes to buy
I've never thrown away a rod in my life. Minnesota Dave is a good man. His way works for him, but mine is slightly different. I sneak up on it with two hands. My off hand (gloved) grips the rod an inch or two from the tip. I sneak up on it. Rod tip is an onion skin thickness away when I get a little...

Woodworkers curf in miters. A miter that doesn't fit well can be fastened in place, then a very fine handsaw with little tooth set is used to cut a curf , fine tuning the joint.
I suggest a sawzall, thin cut blade on a grinder, or a hacksaw.

Pole Framer is on the mark. Miller advice is calculated to avoid controversy. I still urge you to run power to your building as a best solution. I've spent a lifetime running power to buildings that couldn't have power. It is not a big deal. I'll talk you through it. There are numerous reasons to do...

Re: Getting a mig welder.
I do on occasion use a Millermatic 252 powered by the Bobcat 250. The Bobcat produces 41 amps of AC 60 HZ 240 volt power. You likely can't manage dualshield with the Bobcat as power supply, but most MIG welding will work fine. I don't know who at Miller you spoke to, but they have misled you. The 25...

I know only a little more than you. I say that because I was in your shoes a little earlier. Mine was built for a 540 RPM line shaft, I'd guess 1915. To match speed, I found a three speed gearbox built for the purpose in 1939. Adding a jackshaft, I geared it down where it needs to be. Mine is Econom...

The grand finale of a multi year process. A master's degree in early education. Now she feels like she will have too much time on her hands. Burlington is too big a city for my taste. I don't get there real often.

Re: new welder, input wiring help
I don't believe it is relevant how often. Install the welder, use it a little at first, like it, you use it more. I will assume you are using 230 Volt household USA power. NEC allows a reduction in conductor size based on duty cycle. The factors in 630.11(A) call for 46.62 Amp supply. Some terminal ...

Re: Dual shield flux core?
I use .045 in A Millermatic 252. I'm not clear why Dual Shield heats the gun so much. I melted the M25 gun. I repaired it, and bought a 400 amp Bernard gun that handles the heat well.

I weld stuff when I see it. You know what I mean? I get an idea, draw it out and make it. I would be fine using a Suitcase. I thought, Miller said it would not work 100% because the Bobcat does not have some arc thing. From Miller. If you are planning on connecting this Feeder or MIG Welder to the ...

Re: Difference between the two.
Be very careful. I haven't researched the subject. I believe Trailblazer is a two alternator machine. Each is part of what the engine can support. If a weldor has a fitter, he welds while the fitter fits. I squeeze the trigger on a saw, or grinder while we use a Bobcat the arc is changed. Trailblaze...

Re: Difference between the two.
Use it, enjoy it. You might prefer an inverter machine plugged into it. It runs a MM252 under moderate load, or a Dynasty 280 under full load. Bobcat is a pretty good stick welder.

I have jars of it. I prefer it. I buy Thoriated 'cause NOS is cheap. If I buy new, (not much) I buy 2% thoriated.ESENTI wrote:Dear friends does anyone has tried to use RED tungsten in AC tig welding in an Inverter machine and was pleased to see that it works well

Re: 1% vs 1.5% vs 2% Lanthanated??
I've tried numerous alloys. Pure doesn't work well on AC, with square wave, or DC. Aside from that, they all work OK. If you haven't had a filler, or puddle contact accident in a year or more, you need to research best tungsten. For those of us who don't work on Fifth Street, (I doubt he has ever di...

Yes you can. Installation is less than you paid for a Bobcat, even if it was ten years old. I do it often.
I'm in VT, but there are people all over your state able to do it.

Re: Difference between the two.
I have used the Millermatic 252 with the Bobcat 250 (2006 vintage with Onan engine) I'll admit that I was not at peak output, but it worked fine for an off grid welding project. Other plug in welders will make more efficient use of limited power output. Inverter welders need less power. Where are yo...

Re: Want opinions, thinking of buying this welder..
My post was long as it is. No, mobile homes are not held to NEC compliance. The excuse I get is mobile homes are low income housing, HUD takes the greater power as the residents are low income. Still, I haven't mentioned any NEC code this practice violates except that ALL wiring devices must be &quo...

Re: Want opinions, thinking of buying this welder..
Let me give an extreme example, manufactured housing. Late last century mobile homes were mass produced. One factory I know of did four homes a day. A circuit runs from the breaker panel, the cheapest panel on the market. In some units it might run to the opposite corner of the module to a junction....

Actually I think they tried to make Square D's screw terminal a little better for stranded wire. The tapered tip supposedly spreads individual strands and increases contact area with the barrel of the connector. It's still a hell of a lot better than the fake spring loaded SPEEDWIRE crap millions o...

Re: Want opinions, thinking of buying this welder..
Our code books include specific instructions as to how to terminate wire. It's rare to find a connection properly made. I say the hook bent in the wire to wrap around a screw should be J shaped. ours do not wrap around a screw. they are always sods of things and do not work well with multi strand c...

I have a Bobcat. I have used it as a stick welder, and a generator. I have a Millermatic 252 I use as a MIG, flux core, Dualshield, and I have a spool gun for aluminum MIG, which I haven't used. TIG I do with a Dynasty. My sense is that Bobcat is less than ideal as a TIG, and needs expensive suitcas...

Re: Want opinions, thinking of buying this welder..
May I assume a standard wall lamp still has two wires, therefore is single phase. Here, some residential structures are multi family, they have three phase, but no three phase loads. It is just a way to bring 1.73 times as much power without big services. Is your welder three phase? Here we have 15...
