Re: welding shields
Guess I have found you cannot spend to much on equipment that being said I bought a Miller Digital Elite hood and a 2.25 cheater lens that fits inside in the provided slot. Has weld, cut, grind and X mode and because I have bifocals had to have a big view area. It meets all my needs and then some. I...

Very good beginner instruction for ARC stick IMO
Although many years old and a bit long and classroom like, I found this video very helpful especially the frozen visual shots of the puddle changes with arc length and rod angle and the different movement required for different rod types. Not to knock any of Jody's videos but I found this informativ...

Lincoln and Everlast inverter user I use 3/32 2% Lanthenated. Found smaller diameter tungsten just would not tolerate heat needed.

Re: New to Welding - AMP question ( tig - aluminum )
I also am KTM bleed orange guy. Here is my first attempt at aluminum inside fillet. I ran at 135 amps peddle controlled, and 3/32 4043 filler. I use a #8 gas lens at 18 cfh maybe the reason your having issues, not a good gas coverage. All wiped off with Acetone including the filler then ss brushed. ...

Worked with ss most of my life and we always used a right angle 5 inch cutoff hand held or bigger Milwaukee and a piece of steel for a guide. Make a light score a couple times along your mark and the blade follows along just fine.

Re: Learning vertical up butt joint weld
So I am a tig guy trying my best to learn the arc/stick side of things. I have a good handle on fillet welding flat, butt joints flat lap joints flat, but vertical attempts I am a mess. I have been trying on some 3/16 carbon steel flat butted together joint vertical of course. Used 3/32 7018 and go...

Re: Learning vertical up butt joint weld
When traveling up with stick, arc length is critical, and, you need to draw a large "triangle" to move the puddle up the hill. Be aware, as you weld uphill, the heat is running up faster in front/above you, so you can lower your amps somewhat from the maximum, but 40 is way too cold. With...

Went to the website didn't see much good in the reviews. Seems like mostly a soldering of aluminum process not a true weld.

Re: Inside fillet and outside corner back to back on aluminu
We usually try to do the inside first, then we cut out the burn through and weld the outside. It's nicer looking in the end. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk Okay will try inside first. And probably let cool then outside kind of a fast pass. Figure the inside fillet can tolerate the heat a bit ...

Re: Bleeding off pressure on argon lines
So I guess I will bleed pressure off if not going to weld for a day or so. Find I have to activate solenoid anyway for flow verification so argon is going to be wasted a bit either way.

Re: Bleeding off pressure on argon lines
Sounds like I might have started a debate. I do like the flow and column ball type, and will probably switch back, but I also find no need to adjust the pressure one once set I ck it at first and forget it.

Re: Bleeding off pressure on argon lines
Bruce, are you saying you went from a flow meter to a pressure gage? If so, why? pressure gage.png flow meter.png Yes I did just because the later came with this newer welder and wanted to see if it was more accurate. I have flow still, it worked just fine. Do you have a preference? Flow is what I ...

Bleeding off pressure on argon lines
Just changed out to a dual gauge in place of a gauge and ball column style regulator. Noticing after shutting off bottle then returning the next day the control side gauge pressure reads about 40 psi. So today before shutting off welder I shut off the bottle and hit pedal to bleed off pressure to so...

Being a farm gate are you cleaning it thoroughly inside and out and a few inches each side of the weld area and acetone wiping it does make a difference on used steel. It isn't galvanized by chance?

Re: Inside fillet and outside corner back to back on aluminu
If your piece gets hot, it will take less amps to weld it. Thick steel isn't a great heat sink. I will draw out heat but very slowly so thats why your AL stayed so hot. If your not in a hurry then let it cool off between welds or quench it. Are you using filler on your OS corner weld or fusing? Usi...

Re: In a pickle welding for money or not?
Oh man my insurance company would not accept a wood stove in a garage, especially if vehicles are in the garage. I have a call out to Farm Bureau Insurance for a talk about my situation, and possible business licensing if that is not as costly as I was quoted by my current agent.

Welding an inside fillet weld after doing a outside corner weld on 3/16 aluminum flat. Seems I do the inside fillet and the nice outside bead gets hot enough to become concave? Back off on amps I presume on the second weld? Let piece completely cool before attempting welding on opposite side? I am e...

With aluminum filler I stick in and pull pull back slightly with torch, at same time, move torch while filler is back a bit stab and pull back torch. I find torch needs to be at right angle or you will heat and ball up the filler from the heat. Not such a problem with ER and steel welding. Aluminum ...

I lay filler in crook of thumb area and through index and next finger. Then you move the two fingers toward thumb, pinch and feed and repeat that movement. When your bringing fingers up for another bite you pinch the filler in crook of thumb. It becomes natural after a couple hundred times. At first...

Re: Tungsten Spitting, Is It Just Due To Over-Amping Tungste
Have had that occur when I dabbed a bit to much filler and it touches tungsten just a milli second maybe and doesn't harm the tungsten like on a carbon steel in DCEN. You did mean spitting not splitting correct?
