We did sign up for private lessons with a couple of welders. Most of the lessons are with one in particular, and he's quite a good teacher. It's more like a coach, and that he shows my son how to do different things after he explains it, and then watches while my son tries to duplicate his work. He also occasionally fixes mistakes.

Since my son is heading north to stay with his cousins for a week or two, I have the welding space to myself and I'll see if I can do a little TIG welding. I've only watched the lessons, I haven't actually tried to duplicate their work at all.
