A friend's brother, just out of high school, wants to move to Arizona and attend welding school. Does anybody here have any first-hand knowledge or experience of/with any welding schools or programs in AZ? All info appreciated.

I'm from Arizona, I learned to weld through the pipefitters union UA Local 469. I really don't know of any welding schools in Arizona. There is a community college in Tucson that has a welding program but I don't know if it's any good. It's through Pima Community College. If your friends brother is interested in piping and pipe welding Local 469 has a top notch training center and excellent instructors. I recommend the union apprenticeship if he's looking for a career in welding. Work in AZ isn't great right now but he's young and the schooling and training that he can get there could, in the future, take him anywhere. There are also boilermaker and ironworker apprenticeships that have welding but as far as just a welding school, I don't believe there is one.
