I hope we don't have terrorists reading this thread...

Naaah...just cranky old miners and welders who would jump at the chance to go one on one with a terrorist or 2

I think with the density they will show up on the walk through X-ray machines.
I have more questions than answers

Good point. Though carefully knapped obsidian might be capable of refracting x-rays, if one knew a shitload more about material science and optics than I do...

Perhaps a knife made of bone (preferably pig, for the muslim terrorists...) concealed along a pant seam so it's density was masked by the femur? A matching set, so both femurs show similar density?

The last time I was on a commercial flight, I could still smoke on the plane.

If you are on united and you see a terrorist, just tell the hostess that they are sitting in your pre purchased seat and that facker will be strong armed and frog marched out of there, post haste.

That was some bullshit wasn't it? I am amazed you heard about it in OZ. I can say this...if I would have been there, I would have defended that poor guy. Would have been a nice pay day for me as well 8-)

United simply wanted 4 passengers to step off so they could get 4 of their employees on the flight. If I remember correctly, the planes first stop after take off was within 300 miles(don't remember what airport) so they could have rented their employees a car and they could have drove it. Might have taken a little longer and it would definitely have been less expensive. I heard that poor Dr. got a few million bucks for his trouble. No one should EVER be treated that way. I hope United goes the way of the dinosaur for that stunt.

It was foul. I've seen people who attack cops treated better.

I've wondered that too. I think the scanners in use these days give visuals of objects as well as the magnetometer thing, so if they see a knife shaped object they can investigate.

I have ceramic kitchen knives and a very expensive metal detector and the machine does NOT react to them. I can only say that about the knives I have, not sure about all the others. Ceramic knives are awesome by the way. Scalpel sharp.

The scanners will detect the shape but they are not that common yet. Been thru a fair amount of airports and the only one I seen was either in Dubai or London.
Been a while since I was in the US though so they might be more common there.

Always wanted to ask immigration about one question on the card for entering USA, "Have you participated in genocide" What's the limit for that?

Also a question for Aussie immigration, "Do you have a criminal conviction?" Didn't know that was still a requirement to get in.

The appropriate response, with a completely straight face, is, "Do genocidal condoms count?"

I knew a fellow, who, while going through customs, was asked, "Do you have any pornography?"
He replied, tongue fully in cheek, "It's 2010! I don't even OWN a pornograph!"

Anders, a criminal conviction has always been a requirement to get in. White settlement of this country based on convicts was so...um...successful that no-one has ever seen a need to change the standard. ;)

Well..... this thread has definitely developed into something very interesting. I'm curious to see just where this one might end up. Tools, knives, terrorists, genocidal condoms, I mean.... it's limitless

And I have pretty much stayed out of it too.
