When properly setting up a cutting torch, I’ve always just eye balled the pressure settings and adjusted the valves on the torch until I got a neutral flame. Now I’m realizing that each torch tip has specific pressures and thicknesses it’s designed for.

When setting the pressure, is it supposed to be set with the torch off or flowing gas?

Dial in settings with valves closed. In case it's helpful, Jody has a cutting torch video here-

Sent you a PM about your SMAW questions from another thread. Sounds like you've got some projects going!

You can find pressure settings HERE (opens a PDF) in Victors (ESAB) welding and cutting guide
