Use of ss 304 in heat applications

Postby Des » Mon Jan 08, 2018 9:18 am

Hi all

Recently I came across a graph where the relationship of ss, their carbon contents versus time exposed to elevated temperatures and sensitization is shown.
From these graph, I see that a ss, containing 0.03% C (For example 304L) has its most critical temp. at 600°C.
At this temperature, sensitization starts after +/- 9 hours exposure.
Now my question is this " Is that time accumulative?"
If the exposure time stays below this 9Hrs period, and let it cool for say to ambient, and stay there for a couple of hours, can I again start a sequence for 9Hrs before sensitization starts?

Best regards,
Des.
