I’m a bit of a history buff when it comes to all things engineering. When relaxing I love to see what old time videos I can find on YouTube and other places online.

I figure I can’t be the only one who likes these things so I’m going to share what I find with the forum. I will try and post videos with some regularity as I find them.

Apologies for any issues viewing those. I had to figure out the embedding process.

I watched the second one on Heliarc, that was cool. First, they had better film cameras back then than are available digitally now. Not that that should surprise anyone. Digital cameras suck.

I especially liked how he didn't clean the paint near the weld, and in the video you could see it bubbling off and smoking all the while he's welding.

I couldn't figure out what cup was being used there? Was that ceramic or was it some sort of metal? Also noted, 100% blunted tungsten.

Thanks for posting the videos, I'm gonna watch em all. 8-)

Been a bit slack my apologies. Here is another find. This goes into other topic but there are a lot of welding related things mentioned.

I watched the ones on Atomic Hydrogen Welding last night. Pretty cool process. Precursor to TIG I guess. Did some reading on that on Wikipedia, quite interesting. That and a few other processes linked with it were very interesting.

Oh hell yes! Love these old videos, good to see what came before..

This one my old boss showed me, not run the experiment myself, should one day.
