does waxing my lens help save it from splatter ?

I doubt wax will save your lens from a hot burning piece of molten metal. Back when it was easy to get glass lens covers, even those would start to get pitted from flying spatter.

Read on another site a guy was using the Mothers head light restoration kit for automotive headlamps to clean his lenses and said it worked great.

Hi there,

What type of hood or shield are you talking about? If it is a basic flip front one, you can put a clear plastic lense in front and behind the glass. When they get dirty give em a clean with a soft cloth and when the front one gets too bad from the spatter, bin it and get a newie.
