Cool video!

It's a good technique to keep distortions low, HAZ very much limited in the parent material and if the joints are designed for a 'brazing' style process you can build cool and strong stuff out of it like car spaceframes from very thin pipe:

And it's a fairly well know solution on race-bike frames too:

In these appications the somewhat higher ductility in the joints and reduced HAZ means the whole structure can flex under load without developing stress raisers and cracking points around the welds extending it's lifespan.
