Hello,

My name is John, I live in the Highlands of Scotland, originally from the South of England. I have spent most of my 54 working years in the steel fabrication trade, as a welder and fabricator. I now have a very small business in general fabrication and repair work.

Throughout my working life, around the world, I have always been struck by the American approach to welding. There, welders seem to be more valued and their skill taught to a higher level than here in the UK. I worked in oil yards where ex milkmen etc were put on a six month training course and were told at the end that they were welders. Some could weld, but many were lost when it came to functioning in the real world of steel fabrication.

I love the trade, that's why I am still at it at 68 years old.
