Hello, Been searching the wide web for a manual to no avail...Bought an old AK-Plas 150 liquid cooled Acklands plasma cutter. 230/460/575 -3 phase. thing weighs like 2 tons. Cannot find an op manual or any info on this unit? Also wondering if a 1-3 phase converter could b used...thanks for any help.

any pics of the unit?

while 3 phase to single phase conversion is always possible, whats the odds of having a single phase connection big enough to handle it.
tweak it until it breaks

That will be the biggest question. Many 3-phase welders and cutters and such go that route when they exceed the current that a single phase can deliver easily. This is less so for motor-driven machines like mills where 3-phase is often cheaper and more robust so that's used but not always because it needs the extra power.

So yeah.. A picture of the machine and esp. the label/plate that has the current and power ratings would be good.

Bye, Arno.

3-phase 62A at 230V input (assuming the 230V is between the legs of the phases and not to neutral) would be 24.7 kW.. Of course the others end up at the same value ;)

That would need a 33HP industrial (rotary)phase converter to run on a single phase input. American Rotary lists a suitable unit for $8,349.00 (USD)

Industrial VFD's in a similar capacity (around 25kW) look to be around $4000 (USD)

The single phase would also need to be sized (at 230V single phase) at around 120A input or bigger to run this.

So I guess the first step would be to see if it's at all feasible to run this in your situation before digging deeper into it...

Bye, Arno.
