In extreme cold, gas engines start easier. In hazardous locations, diesels are preferred (including your truck, which you already have covered).

If you're going to rig up, buy the most versatile machine you can afford. Look at what you can do, and what you'd like to do in five to ten years. A rig is a long-term investment. Don't buy a machine you'll outgrow in less than five years. If you do, you'll have to upgrade while trying to sell the old one.
