The Navy wants a security locker built from 1/2" Hadfield plate, which one person mentioned is commonly used for safes and vaults. The locker is about the size of a refrigerator. Engineers and shipyard weld crew were discussing how they qualified an alternate steel, as they weren't sure what to do about qualifying a welder for Certification on welding Hadfield plate. Anyone know what Certification would cover this alloy? I only found one post talking about this steel in use for cutting edges on earth moving, rock crushing, and castings for bucket teeth. I'm curious as to what defense industry welding Cert qualifies a welder on this steel. Any ideas?

If you find someone more knowledgeable in the welding codes for pressure pipe. They can guide you to a metal test fitting the same base category. Then match the filler metal category. Pipe tests will qualify for all positions and also flat work.
I have more questions than answers
