Can I make my own coupons? I have access to a mill and a line burner, or is it just better to buy them. I live in Utah near Salt Lake City but not sure where to buy them. Looking to do 3g structural with 7018, also mig tests and tig. Thanks for any advice.

Go to a steel merchant and buy a length 3"x 3/8 flat bar ND cut it up into 12" long bits and prep them on the mill. Job done

You can go buy your own steel all day long, and bevel it yourself.

I buy 3/8" x6" flatbar, and cut it into 4" lengths.

And for 1" plate, buy 1"x4" flatbar, and cut it into 6" lengths.

Wish I'd thought of that.

You're actually better off to make your own practice coupons.

Your results will better match what you'll encounter in the field, and will make those machined coupons for a real-world "I need this job" test that much easier.
