just starting pipe welding as well as welding in general, any tips or pointers are greatly appreciated... doing this completely on my own. TIA

ps: 7010 using a lincoln 250 ranger

What schedule pipe is that? It doesn't look like it has much of a bevel on it.

it is standard wall 12" steel.375 i believe, that isn't two pipes, i just used thin grinder blade to make a straight line to work off of. just practicing laying beads before i work on root and all running about 70-80 amps

The weld you got pictures of doesn't look bad. And it sounds like your amps are in the right range for 3/32 7018. If your wanting to practice welding pipe then I would find a way to clamp it at a 45deg angle. Then start welding at the bottom and work your way toward the top without rolling it. This will be the angle and standard that lots of pipe cert tests are given at.
If you attempt to start practicing 6010 1/8 for an open butt joints then that becomes a little different beast but the position and angles will still apply.
