I've recently gotten back into welding after being away form it for about 25 years. I was given a old Eutectic AC welder. And I've run into a problem when trying to weld vertical. The welder doesn't like to run at low amps, below 110, to do vertical welds. It keeps sticking the rods. I'm using 1/8 inch Hobart 6011. Can anyone help with this? It's really frustrating. I just want to make some good welds.
Thanks from a frustrated welder

I wonder if it's a design problem with the machine and that model NEVER welded well at low amps, or maybe it needs a good cleaning up? Maybe take the cover off, remove the cob webs, and look for any obvious corrosion at contact points. Do you have a manual for it, and does it suggest routine maintenance?

No, I don't have a manual for it but, you may be right, it very well may need a good cleaning. I'll have to do that. Thanks, that was something I didn't think of.
