Dynasty 280dx running 7018 Rod

Hello All,

Looking for any suggestions for running 7018 rod on a Miller Dynasty 280dx.
Practicing for 1" 3g plate test, so far the welds are ok but not as good as what
we are getting with an Everlast Powerpro 205.

Right now my settings are:

- DCEP
- 115 amps
- Stick Stuck/Hot Start on
- Dig @ 60%
- Output - on

It just doesn't seem to be running as smooth as the Everlast (also an inverter machine), same
parameters set on that machine.

Any replies greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have an older 200DX, and I run 3/32 7018 at about 80amps, no DIG unless overhead or uphill. At 115amps, what diameter rod? Suspect 1/8, but asking to be sure.

Hey CJ,

1/8" rod
vertical uphill passes
rod about 90 degrees to workpiece

From what I've read, Dig is more ideal @ 30% or less with 7018.

I agree. I only turn up the dig for running a root with 6010. For 1/8 7018 on that particular test I like to run it at 123-125 amps.

I run 1/8" 7018 at 120A, depending on the application but mostly I run with my Dig at 100 %

So I called Miller to try and get some info about the machine and this particular process.

Apparently you don't need to swap the ground and stinger as you would on other machines
to get straight (DCEP) polarity, the machine automatically does this for you.

There is nothing in the manual which explains this.

The rod runs much better now, running some 1/8" Lincoln Excalibur and getting pretty good results.

Thanks all!

Had you been swapping the work cables? That would explain a lot 8-)

I found it on page 33, process selection.

Didn't think to look in the Maxstar 280 section for information on the DX....

Thanks for seeking that out partner!

No probs. Good luck on that test.
