I need help and advice on running 11018 rod on a test . I have never run this rod before . My welding teacher told me that it runs just like 7018 . I will be taken the test on 3/8 inch plate flat vertical and overhead. Please any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I asked my welding instructor the same thing and he said pretty much the same thing. The only difference between 7018 and 11018 is carbon content. As we know, when you go up in carbon content you worry about cracking. A way to prevent this is post heat and preheat.

I have used the rod for a pull test,More Carbon and heat, you should not have to worry about cracking with the size of Base metal used. I have welded for a few years and allso became CWI. If any one needs help with Welder Certifications,Reach Out!!! Welds like E7018.
