Our part time instructor at tech school brought this fellah in. 1000 amps to run it. 5/8" 7024. Used for bridge welding years ago.

Rods that big, and bigger are used for whats called flood welding. For welding up molten metal crucibles and such.

Never seen anything larger than 1/4" myself.
