Hi all
My question today is about bigger rod. I have used 7018 and 6010 rods up to 5/32 in all postions. I cant seem to find any where on the inernet that talks about 3/16 or 1/4 in the vertical or overhead postions. 7018 or 6010 are all postions and know that at least 3/16 is manufactured in 7018 and 6010. It should be usible in the hard positons. But i have seen it done. I triy 3/16 7018 once on an uphill test T joint and it did not seem to work at. LOL

Any way I just want to know if its do able or not.

Probably because of #1 the amperage required to run those rods (a 1/4 inch 7018 requires a minimum of 300 amps) and #2, the bigger the rod, the more metal you are carrying in the puddle, and after a point it just gets damn hard to carry that much metal. I still step down to a 3/32 rod in 7018 if I am going vertical up, because 1/8th rod is just a bit more difficult for me to control. and #3, besides maybe ship building, what applications really call for a 1/4 inch rod?
