Hello friends,

Can any buddy tell me what type of rod is use to weld ALUMINUM?
And also tell me which type of welding is suitable for it.I know mig or tig is the preferred way to do this job,but which one is best.

This is just my opinion, but i would go with TIG welding it. I don't weld alot of aluminum, but at the plant i work at we use 4043 aluminum filler rods. as far as using a MIG welder, i couldnt tell you how good it is. i've never seen anyone MIG aluminum but i guess if you can do it right it does fine. I just think TIG is more fun. Maybe my 2 cents will help. Jody has alot of good aluminum tips on here thats helped me with what little i do or try.

I guess same rules apply as with any other material-
thin/controlled/pretty=tig
fast/thicker production work=mig (I use a miller spoolgun setup)
outside windy=stick/dcep- I have had the best luck running aluminum rod like 7018, only faster-lots faster.

1 other thing-aluminum I believe to be the least forgiving metal. as I'm sure you have read on the site, no color change before it just goes away.

hope this helps-
